Preparing for mud racing... Suggestions?
#21
Thanks for all the good suggestions.
The class is stock to 35 inch tires. I am sure there are some things that I can do to be somewhat competetive without going nutz. Most of the trucks are v8 full size. Not too many toyota fans out here so would love to be able to show em up. Im thinking that if I did some homework I could stand a chance using my light weight to my advantage.
I have new TSL radials-4inch suspention lift with rear springs not blocks-22re-5speed-not sure on the gear ratio off the top of my head.
What other mods can i do that would give me the edge.... shavings make a pile!

I say trade your 33's for some 35's to get deeper in the mud. I'm running a 4" suspension, 3" body, 1.5" bj spacer lift and run 36" Iroks and clear them easily with no trimming. You can go from your 4" lift to what I have for about $250.
But then of course you'd need gears if you plan on driving the truck on the street at all... If it was for the mud only though I wouldn't even bother with the gears. You want tire speed to move mud and clean out the tires.
And it's going to be absolutely necessarry to lock at least the rear or preferrably front and rear diffs. You can use lunchbox lockers to save cash or spend a lot more and go selectable.
I'd probably start with the 33's and lock both diffs and try it out. More lift and bigger tires will get your truck up out of the mud more and help keep it moving. Eventually you're going to want more lift and bigger tires.

Put the radiator in the bed, mounted about 1' behind the cab with a good electric fan(or 2). I know a guy who's got a chevy like that. Works great for the mud, radiators hate mud.
