my rustbuster/immobilizer electrical draw

my rustbuster is the counteract rust inhibitor, marketed in canada and called couplertec in australia. hard to find in the US I think, I like it a lot. I have this one but branded as a Canadian 'counteract'.
it should not drain the battery as "it shuts off when the battery reaches 80% of capacity..

the immobilizer however doesn't know about battery I think.
the combination of these 2 drained the optima out.
next time I won't be starting the engine for a few weeks, is it safe to disconnect the battery, do I need to wrap up the terminals or posts for safety?

you can disconnect the battery, but you shouldn't have to. something else is causing a drain. Ps. that rust prevention stuff is crap. if you want proof take a look at my old explorer...

If you really want to disconnect the batt they sell a thing that goes on the cable end that will let you disconnect it just by turning a knob/switch.

got the odyssey battery!

turns out that my optima red-top was indeed shot! It wouldn't take a charge and keep it anymore (they had it charging all day and night and no cigar).
So I got a full refund on my optima and went for the odyssey 1500 in its place.
I also got the quick-release post put on just for in case I ever have to park it for a long time again.
here's some pics. also, from the odyssey site:
"The Odyssey PC1500DT is the same size as a typical Optima Red, Yellow or Blue top, with more cranking power, more reserve capacity, longer design life, and a better warranty'.
thanks to everybody who helped me with this issue and advised me towards this battery! one immediate difference is the starting is much snappier! thanks again
taiko
