ok heres a question v6
got my engine alllll back together and in. tried starting her and she just turns over, i do smell gas and i checked for spark, its there and i can hear it suckin air from the k&n cleaner, but she wont fire, nows where it gets tricky, if i keep on starting it and dont let off the key she will start up but die unless i gun it and even then it has no real power, if i let up, she dies. tried timing her again checked for spark again and its all there..... this one is kickin my butt

Could be flooded. You shouldn't 'smell gas' in a closed EFI system like that.
Pop a spark plug off and check the cylinder for gas. Have you turned the distributor cap a bit?

f the exhaust, so its not burning it

make sure all your ground wires are hooked up, go back through with a fine tooth comb and visually check that everything is plugged in and you don't have any extra plugs hanging. try grounding the fuel pump wire going to the AFM to see if that helps

i disconnected the battery and tested for codes without trying to start it first and i still have a 51, do i need to disconnect both terminals for a longer time, i only did it for about 20 seconds?

okies... is the throttle position sensor connected? are all the plugs connected? is there anything you may have forgotten to connect? speed sensor? a/c solenoids? those three things share code 51.

the AC compressor or speed sensor shouldnt stop the engine from starting. the TPS will, as will some of the other sensors including the AFM. in your case this truly sounds like a timing issue, you used a timing light to verify that it is at specifications? do you have the plug wires on correctly, are you certain that you aligned the cam and crank correctly before installing the timing chain?
