New Wheels Chrome 2 black (56k Warning!!!)
First off thanks goes out to Christian for an awesome write up and video for us. My wallet hates you but I appreciate the hard work. Thanks!!!
So Thanks to Darth Brian I have acquired some new Pro Comp tires and who knows wheels. Well the polite way of saying this is that the wheels had little to be desired but Darth Brian made the deal to sweet to not take!!!
After watching the video in the tech/write up section about painting one's wheels I had to do it. It will be interesting to see how it turns out in the long run on the chrome finish but my initial reaction is....
"WOW, I like these wheels now!"
So onto the pics. But first, I used Rustoleum primer and Rustoleum Hammered Black paint. No clear coat and this was done in just a few hours after getting them home and having dinner. Now onto the pics!!!!
Initial look...
Taped off...
Primered and comparison of the stock look...
Going Hammered Black...
A little extra goody in the deal, the spare carrier
Looking good, now just need to get them on the truck in the morning and clean up the tires themselves!!!

no dude, paint before you get new tires... so when you swap them out all you have to do is tuch up... much easier way to do it is paint with old tires on, then touch up if needed once new tires are on

Really? I was thinking they'd scratch it up pretty good while dismounting/remounting, and there'd be so much touch-up that it would look uneven.

i did it on my 90 chevy 1500... they turned out to be decent..... the only problem was i didn't have alot of "depth" in my wheels like the ones pictured so i scratched the paint alot when i was wheelin' i did 2 coats of metal primer after sanding... and then 2 coats of black hammered metal paint... they did alright but i knew that the paint wouldn't last when wheelin' hard

Just so you know for next time, if you take masking tape, and stand it on its edge inbetween the tire and rim lip, you will never get over spray. Ever.

thats what i did i got some wheels and crap tires so i didint mask nothing im gonna let them sit out in the hot sun for a few days b4 i clear coat them

im wondering the same thing. im thinking of painting my front bumper on my 89 to black and i was just going to scuff it up/sand it really well and then put a nice coat of primer on it before i painted it.

I just painted my stock SR5 wheels a few days ago, came out pretty well, I'm happy with the results. I hit em with paint thinner, 400 grit sandpaper, the washed with soap and water. 2 coats of Duplicolor self etching primer and 3 od Rustoleum satin black, with 10 minutes between coats.

One small tip, use "bulldog adhesion promoter" to make paint stick to chrome, aluminum, plastic, etc... here is a link that describes it but you can get it at parts stores or even wallyworld:
