New Radio install problem

New Radio install problem
I'm sure I'll get yelled at for starting a new thread on this, but please bear with me.
I bought a radio for wally world to replace the stock AM/FM. I was able to get it to fit in the rails after bending the little tabs flat, but it hits on a wire bundle underneath the ~1.5" tube that goes across the cab. Am I missing something? It is significantly longer than the stubby stock radio, but not too long. I thought about trying to move the tray to the top, but it was still too long to fit in there without hitting a plastic air duct.
Does the 89 toy need a shorter than normal radio? I'll probably just leave the stock radio in there for now, but I think it's odd that it wouldn't fit.
Thanks

I'd also like to hear about a solution to this as it sounds like a future problem I will be having when I put a new stereo in my 90 4runner. I haven't made it that far so I don't know what it looks like yet, but I'd like to know the outcome in advance.

I have a pioneer deck installed and it fits in there nice. Is that wire bundle unmovable?
All I can really think of is maybe you dont have the right wiring harness for the deck.

I have installed the Pioneer stereo's from Wal-Mart in both of my Yoters (89 & 94) and I can tell you from experience that it just takes a little patience and ingenuity. The harness you are referring to is movable, but it is a little difficult. I have always found it easier to remove the passenger side of the dash (glove box, fascia, etc.) to give a little more room to work and open up access to be able to run wires conspicuously. It's only 4 more screws and 1 bolt if I remember right, but it makes it a whole lot easier. I have the Pioneer DEH-4800 and a Cobra 29-WXNWST installed in mine with very minimal dash modification.
I have pics, but I can't figure out how ppl are getting them in the post. It keeps telling me that it has to be less than 48k.

not really, but the potential was there. Like I said, if you have a little patience and some ingenuity, you can pull it off fairly easily. Just don't get in a hurry. I think it took me about 3 - 3 1/2 hours to get the cb in there. I lost my ashtray, but I don't smoke so it wasn't a big deal.
The cig lighter was actually the closest to being a real problem. It is actually pushed out about a half an inch, though you can't really tell it. My radar detector stays plugged in all the time so it's no issue for me. If I used it more then I'm sure I would have had to spend more time finding a solution for it. (Hardwire, maybe?)

Another option would be to use a smaller cb, but I am an ol timer when it comes to cb's and believe in these radio's. I also have a 102" whip mounted on my tool box, and get out about 5 miles pretty clearly when running down the freeway. I get truckers wanting to buy my set up all the time.

You should have no problem with a new stereo install , I have a Rockford Fosgate single din that if i remember correctly is 8" deep I put in with no problems at all in my 1990 4runner in the stock radio location. I also added the storage tray under it. You can get the install kit with the tray from like Wal-mart or any stereo shop like best buy or circuit city for under 20 bucks.
