New to early 4runners. Looking at a couple.
I'm selling my 98 and I still love runners so I saw a couple of older ones that I stopped to look at and was wanting advise on how much they were worth.
The first one was a first gen, the guy thinks is an 89. It's a 4 cyl 4 wheel drive w. 266k miles. Were manual hubs standard cause it had ASIN hubs. They guy says it runs fine except for a small power steering leak. It looks like crap though. It's rusty. The interior isn't too great. The exterior is like a 3 maybe. It's got damage all down the passengers side like it slid up against something. Drivers side has some dents. Keep in mind this isn't going to be my daily but more of a trail rig. He wants $1500 and I'm sure as hell not paying that. I was thinking 800 cash maybe if it runs well. What should I look for and what would it be worth. Also what upgrades if any are available, besides a V-6, to get some more juice out of it.
The second was a 94 but it was sold. Too bad. But it had a blow engine and a guy bought it cause he has one and wanted the clean body cause his was rusty. I haven't seen his yet but what would be fair for a rust body with no engine. V-6, 4x4, manual I hope. I was thinking maybe $3-400 and get another 3.0 to drop in it.
Thanks for any sugestions guys.

No offense, but these are highly sought after vehicles, and often go for more than Blue Book. If I was you, I would check for one with a salvaged title(if they do that in your state) you can find a decent vehicle and it will be worth significantly less than a clean titled rig. Good luck in your hunt. you can also pick one up with a blown motor, and swap a good one in to save some $$$ if you can do that yourself.

Rust Bucket Value
I know they are trucks and hold their value well but a rust bucket with 266K for $1500 geesh thats ridiculous , with no engine in very good shape I would have a hard time paying that ............

I would have to see it to say if it where worth 1500$ find out what the state standard selling price and offer that because that is all that insurance will pay if you get hit also find out what has been replaced on it like starter ALT ect... if not those usually seem to need to be replaced 3 months after buying it
don't go for the v6 or turbo if you don't have the money to replace a turbo and the v6 lacks in power I find the 22r or 22re to be better.

Rust Bucket Value
Rust is directly porportionate to the selling price as it is to body repair/replacement expense's , at least that is the way I see it uless your just going to part it out then it doesn't really matter eh

I hate to be such a noob but what's the 22r and 22re? Is that the 4 cyl? Why would I want that over the v6.
I don't know how much rust the 2nd gen has. I hope to see it sometime soon. I'll take some pics when I see it.

22r is a 4cyl carbed and 22re is a 4cyl fuel injected, these last forever while the v6's have more problems such as head gaskets and other stuff

nah the v6 is great, every great car/ truck has its problems. the headgaskets are bad, but once you get them fixed, your good to go...
dude, i wouldnt buy that truck. something about it i dunno. its junk. come on 266,000 miles!!! for 1500! interior sucks!??? rust!?
this guy must not know alot about cars, and i would not buy one from him..
keep saving your money, and definately keep looking out.
what do you want this truck for anyway? do you want it for wheeling? or for daily driving? hell you can get a honda for cheap and the engine i like a liter and a half, really easy to fix....
double ditto on the salvaged title, my mom got her dream car (mustang cobra) that way, and she loves it.

It would be for wheeling or driving if we get another ice storm maybe. Mostly for wheeling. There's no way in hell I would pay 1500 for it. that. It's on a lot too. Like I said maybe 7-800. That would be driving it and if it ran like a dream.
I think the 2nd get might be a better bet. Esp if I can get a manual, 4x4 v6 for less that a grand. If that happens it may get the whole top cut off and a cage built just because it was cheep. I was also thinking when putting the 3.0 in, while it was out I would probably put new hg on, timing belt and matainance. Maybe do whatever upgrades I could, cam, exhaust, intake whatever. One of my friends has a tubing bender and a nice welder and a lot of experiance building drag cars.
