yeah the 1/2 horse power gain aint much but it sets my yota apart from others in one more way. but shorter air travel has to help alittle. everybody has to remember these are like 100 some odd hp not gonna feel a whole lotta power like a bigger truck. but enough little things can add up to a big thing

i'm installing the 82 supra 43110 afm and 85 supra 60mm tb saturday. doubt it will make much difference, but i'm not inside with the wife and kids. good excuse for a 6er or two and who knows...i may be able to pull hills in a gear other than 3rd foot to the floor.

i heard that install was a pretty good one, they actually noticed alittle difference. where did you manage to find the afm at?

there was a guy with supra parts on craigslist in portland. he had about 25 supras, but only one 82. he had pulled the tb off the same car, but its totally different than my stock one. i ended up hood hopping and found one from an 85 with the 4wire round body tps. its configured a little different, but everythings there. i figured that the pair was worth the $100 just to give me something to do.

A motor is a air pump,the more air it can pump the more you get out of it.
Thats why there are big bore kits for just about any motor out there.
Unfortunately this airflow issue for the 22re is the size of the throttle body butterfly.
You can increase or move the stock parts with aftermarket but until you enlarge the throttle body and the butterfly you probably wont notice any difference.

I put on a K&N FIPK kit thinking it would add some performance gains but didnt notice any real gains until I went with LCEs 4mm overboar throttle body.
Now Im wondering if I can increase the diameter of the intake tube.I'll probably see a difference.

do you happen to know the diameter of the stock butterfly? 54mm?

I swapped the battery w/ the VAFM about 2 years ago. Better throttle response, that's about it aside from a cleaner looking engine bay. I didn't do it for power gains, I did it because it'll be one less thing to think about when I do the 7MGTE swap.

mines "installed", just need to finish painting a few pieces and clean up the cables.

parts used-

Autozone: small cone filter, filter plate, 90* elbow, 2 3" rubber couplers, battery cable terminals.

Home Depot: sheet metal, angle iron, small hinge, small latch, rivets, 7 wire sprinkler wire, solder, small cable keepers(to hold the MAF wire inplace), large cable keepers(for the battery cables), all-thread, wingnuts. 3/16" pop rivets

the box is 5 1/2"W x 8" L X 8" D

need to have this to clear the fender well. i also removed the battery tray.

i made a new battery tray out of angle iron, modified and reused the battery top brace.

used the small welding lead for my battery cables, ran them back around the firewall then up. ran the MAF wire across the front.

the sprinkler wire was a solid wire MAF wire islike regular wire. but it works and runs great to me, so if you can find regular wire it would be alittle easier to solder. if you put heat shrink on it, need to get a size bigger then the 1/8" for the individual wires and a size bigger then 3/8" for the whole wire.

make sure its the 43110 maf, the 43150 will not work. 82 supra only ... good luck.

I found a few throughout the US. Seems like they go for $60-120. I found one from a Supra with under 60K on it for $75. It's a bit more expensive that I wanted, but what the hell, it will be a fun project.

Now I just need to figure out your airbox design. I my end up making a snorkel or something similar....I am a mud puddle hawg. So my engine compartment sees a lot of water, etc. My daughter (7 yrs) loves bashing through the water and "flingin' poo", so I may go the snorkel route...I dunno...
