Lame. My truck still bumps and jumps at idle when at 2500 RPM. I donno if thats due to the exhaust or what, but I swear it wasn't doing this before.

I also notice that the timing is jumping about 5*... I think it might have something to do with the jumping. Timing chain next? What else could casue that? I'm 99% sure my TPS is adjusted correctly (I've adjusted it 2-5 times, and its brand new Toyota).

TIming jumping around is usually a distributor issue. May be deeper than just the cap/rotor...

What sort of distributor issue? Gear meshing, air gap, what?!

Ok so when I did my head, I could grab the timing chain easily and pull it up (with cam gear) and put it on my cam shaft. I could feel the tensioner sort of put some feedback but there wasn't much. If the timing chain tensioner is loose, or out of steam, could that cause a timing jump? I don't hear the chain rattling around though.

OK, so it's 230 in the morning and I'm just too tired to read through 9 pages of info. Your engine sounds a lot like my old 22re did. After YEARS of trying to find the problem, a friend of mine just so happened to bump into the problem...

Somehow two of my valve springs were shot. My buddy helping me work on my truck bumped into the valve spring and it compressed. We then pushed it down by hand, which you shouldn't be able to do. It's a long shot, but it's possible. The worst part of this all was that when I did a compression test on the engine, it spun slow enough that the valve spring closed in time to read good compression. It's just when the engine was running, the valve spring was so weak that the valve wouldn't close in time, causing a misfire and lack of power. So next time you have time, pull the valve cover and just see if you can push any of the valve springs down by hand...

Oh and if you think it's your distributor I have an extra 22re distributor in my garage that we can try on yours if you want

hey glad you found out the issues we just settled up on my buddies truck. Ended up bieng a couple of things. Valves were way outta adjustment (.8 would not fit under intake or exhaust way tight his other budy did it and he didnt tell me...I was pissed) his fule pump was weak, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel dampner. All of those things summed up our issue. It starts up fast and smooth now. Check your FPR as if its not allowing the fuel to dump back in the tank (more restrictive) then it would spray more gas in the motor.
