I have had this problem I have fried many many alternators and fan clutches in deep mud when you get in that kind of thick goopy mud speed is what you need to get out of it .....i creep in to minimize the intial splash and then balls to the wall WOT to get the lugs to clear..... I have had mud get into my clutch before and it makes crazy noises and even had the whole thing stop working....a good pressure washing cleared that up but the bearing were washed out since the bell housing filled with mud ...get that booty on the fork sealed up quick

Solutions? havent tested my ideas yet but this is what I plan to do to my yota this winter

move alternator to the upper passenger side with a splash gaurd from the tires some how

make extended rubber curtian walls in fender well for splash protection

re-install the factory skid plate

relocate radiator to the back of truck

relocate batteries to the back of truck

relocate the fuses and relays to cab

e-fan

lots of heat shrink

snokel

Mud is fun but the damage make for expensive repairs and long days onthe trail getting my junk to run again but i keep going threw the deepest waters

What I have done is the obvoius diff breather mod, brake backing plate mod, dizzy breather mod, RTV silicone dizzy cap, and dielectric grease in wire connections. these mods are working very well for me

lmfao, heres an idea for ur alternator... Tie a bag around it..preferably a paper bag since plastic would melt with the heat....OR even better... take the bag, and get it on there in a way that it will cover most of it..then Duct tape it! hahaha.. i donno man, its an alternator, u like to mud, it likes to fry.

I'd be worried about the alt overheating if you cover it up. Get better wheel well liners and just go slow through water holes. Stay out of deep ones unless you love replacing parts.
