Thanks for the info on the ADD hubs, but any input on my first post as to the random "ka thud" like a pot hole. Slight whiring noise just before it happens...in unison with my speed, and some reley sounding clicks from the lower side of the steering colume.

I want to switch over to manual hubs for the better MPG and durability but often in the winter I need to kick it into 4WD immediatly on the icey highway or snowy backroads, is it ok to keep them locked for long periods of time while switching in and out of 4WD??

Why of course it's ok to keep 'em locked.
What's the difference between keeping them locked and ADD.
Answer, no differnce.

Now, DO NOT expect any difference in milage.
The vast, vast, vast majority of people who add manual hubs see no milage difference and, I believe that very rare that think they do see a difference either have something else going on with the vehicle or simply are wrong.
Why would you expect a difference in milage, and please do say because less things turning.

I heard they make the steering feel a little lighter. I will find out all these things when I finally install mine Or... when somone else installs mine for me ... I really need to buy a torque wrench

It's the joints that are in the front axles, two joints per axle.

Since the cv's are no longer turning the steering feels lighter.. or so I was told.. if you kinda think about it, it makes a little sence..

In answer to the original question; it soulds like your electronic switch on the front diff may have some issues.

I replaced my stock hubs with Aisins and it frees up the steering feel CONSIDERABLY. Makes it feel much lighter and less like a 4x4.

manually locking Aisin front hubs... 'nuff said.

Aftermarket is okay if you get the right product, but why not keep it in the house, if you catch my drift?

Then you have/had something else going on, like locked in 4wd hi all the time.
You'll notice no difference in steering (when in 2dw) with the hubs locked vs with the hubs unlocked.
Why would anyone expect otherwise ?

Hey, it's been an informative hijack atleast... It's given me some ideas for troubleshooting my 4wd issues.
