You still have a part of the old auto hub on there. Where the 6 studs and 2 pins are sticking out of the wheel hub, the body should be flat across. It looks like that protruding ring should be removed. Those allen bolts will come out and you will remove those adjusting nuts too. Yes, you need the "conversion" kit. All that is in the kit is 4 54mm adjusting nuts, 2 locking tabs, and 2 thrust washers. I think I bought them cheaper at the dealer. These are the same for IFS and solid axles (without auto hubs)

ok....a lot of misinformation in this thread. Let me clear it all up.

First off. Auto Hubs vs ADD.

ADD is a diff disconnect, Auto hubs is a HUB disconnect similar to the old blazers.

AUTO hubs was an option in 84-89 4Runners, and 84-88 Pickups.

In 1989, they switched to ADD in the PICKUPS only! The 1989 4Runner still have Auto HUBS. In 1990, the 4Runner changed over to the ADD setup.

What 89macrunner has, is AUTO hubs. He will need the spindle nut conversion before Manual hunbs can be installed.

Going from ADD to manual hubs IS easy, because ADD uses manul hub spindles with a lock plate instead of hubs.

Going from AUTO hubs to Manual hubs is more difficult, becuase the locking mechanism in the actual spindle is different, and requires a spindle nut conversion.

you're 1/2 correct...see above post, but basically, the auto hubs were still avail in 1989, in the 4runners only. 1989 was also the first year for ADD in the new body style pickup. SO, there were 3 hub types avail, but only in 1989.

Apologies for any misinformation, although most of my posting did lean toward identification/verification. I can't believe I didn't notice the protruding ring especially since I recently had mine apart. Good Luck 89macrunner once you have that conversion kit you should be ok.

I didn't realize it was only one year they were all offered, I knew that 90-95 runners didnt have the option.

Marlin Crawler has the conversion kits for $8.50 a wheel. scroll down the page a bit to the "wheel bearing nut kit". You will need two kits!
