on a 22re, I think that the afm can be adjusted to richen the fuel mixture over the entire operating range of the engine... so i'm wondering of there is an afm problem on your 3vze that is doing the same thing? you should be able to check the afm with a multimeter.

black smoke is gas, blue smoke is oil, white smoke indicates moisture...
It's fuel smoke for sure.

I only and would only run OE Toyota fuel injectors. That's just my preference though .

I do appeciate your advice and help, but lots of guys run these injectors, if you look at the feedback from buyers on ebay people are happier than pigs in mud with them.

100% positive feedback

I was messing around with the truck this evening, one thing I noticed when I goose the throttle there is an audible loud click coming from the air filter box, I can feel it when I put my hand on the air filter box.
Should the little door in the intake box be snapping shut when I gun it ?
It was up to full running temp.

Fuel reg looks pretty old, thinking of putting a new one on.
Even if it's not the problem I'll still have a new reg, I plan on keeping this Runner for a long time.

Been searching for a full diagram of the vacuum hose routing, no luck,
anyone have an accurate diagram you could post up.
I put the hoses back like they were before dis-assembly but I can tell a Mickey Mouse mechanic had worked on it before I bought her.

Air Flow Meter Air Door opens when the engine is running/cranking. It is a switch for the fuel pump during engine running/cranking. It could be sticky/faulty causing air fuel/ratio issues.

They sell a Beck/Arnley coolant sender for $10, the one on the truck looks mighty old too.

I think my Runner just doesn't like Flamethrowers, don't know why.

So here's what I did.

Pulled my old Denso's out out of the spare parts bin (the injectors were in the rig when I bought it)

Cleaned them up the best I could externally, cleaned the electrical contacts using Q-tips and purple de-greaser,then hit them lightly with some 320 wet/dry paper.

Installed them in three hours, pretty good huh, I've had some practice pulling that damn plenum off

Started right up, no eye burning smoke this time.
There was some excess smoke at start up, but went away quickly.

Checked ignition timing after she was warmed up, it was slightly off.

PVC hose clamp was kinda whimpy, replaced it with a screwdriver type clamp.

Idles better, better throttle response, more power, less smoke.

Took it for a test drive, pretty good, the motor is a dog but we all know that.

Motor go's up past 5000rpm easy, even has some low end power at 15mph in second gear.

I think it's time to take it back to the shop for it's smog check, we'll see if the cat needs replacing.

Like I always say... when it comes to Toyota there is nothing like OEM parts ^_^.

Glad you finally figured it out though, very good indeed.
