Hey guys. I thinking about possibly lifting and/or running bigger tires. I've already read a lot of treads about what some of you guys have done, but I have a diff. case. My 4runner has rust along every wheel well and the back tailgate. I am already planning on painting my truck using the "$100 paint job" technique some people have done. So my question is.... since I'm planning on cutting the wheel wells out, should I not lift it if I plan on running 31's or 33's? I realize I have to re-gear for 33's. I plan on cutting about 2-3" off the wheel wells. One more thing to consider is I already have a set of chevy 15x8 rims for future tires. Im currently running stock sr5 wheels/snow tire combo.

first of all, you can run a 31x10.50" stock, most trucks came with that combo from the factory.

You can run up to a 33x10.50 on the stock rim ( or one close to it) with only minor inner fender trimming.

Yeah, sorry... I know I can run 31's stock. I guess I meant to say wouldn't it look stupid if I ran anything less than 31 or 32" tires with fender trimming?

Depends on the person I guess. If your rims were a little wider it would look okay.

"I have a diff. case. My 4runner has rust along every wheel well and the back tailgate." sounds like most 4 runners to me. but yea 35's with cut fender wells has been done to success with no lift. but then most rigs like that dont mind alittle bit of rubbing either way.

I'm pretty sure you need a SAS.

Weld both diffs.

Put on whatever tire size you need, and add lift blocks until you don't rub.

Its just my new standard response when questions are asked that have been asked 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000 times before. When one hits "New Posts" this thread was found 3 threads down from another "what tire size fits" thread, and on the other 2 pages there were at least 3 more.

Also, its probably what he'll be doing anyway, as that is essentially the internet wisdom. I've talked lockers and gears till my face was blue, and its still lift, tires, and SAS.

In a feeble attempt to encourage you, there are those of us who really do wish we would have done it the right way to begin with. If I could go back, I would have invested in gears long before a lift. Now that the money tree is pretty much bare, I am forced to make do.

So, lift up your head my friend and be encouraged, your words of wisdom have not gone completely unheeded...

Alright, to answer the OP's question:

In your situation 33's will barely rub on the inner fender and 35's will hit just about everywhere, but they will "fit".

If you actually read the article (not implying you didn't, that was worded wrong) it says that there's more to bigger tire than just lifting to fit, they need to fit at full compression, so trimming your fenders, will maybe allow 35's to fit and turn on level ground , but the only place you will be able to steer at full stuff will be straight 'cause they'll be wedged up in there pretty good.

Isaac doesn't have any friends. I mean, he does for a short while, but then they spend all this money on lift, tires, and SAS and can't afford to wheel or even go out, and when they do, his "little" IFS truck runs circles around them ... very slowly.

To the OP: If you're going to cut your fenders, don't spend a dime on lift. Get some 33x12.50's on those 15x8s.

To Isaac (& TC), your knowledge and advice have struck me too. I spent a whole $25 on a 1" Body lift, sold the huge 33x13.50 LTBs I originally bought, and spent my money on an e-locker, front truetrac, regear, sliders, BJ spacers (for travel) & 31" MTs. Still trying to finish installing all these mods, but I think I will be very happy!
