Guys doing these swaps - compare the area of the AFM to the area of the TB. You've got to flow air past both holes.

Ideally, you want to open up both the TB and AFM.

so how much of a benifit is there by using the supra afm on the 22re and how much does the supra afm cost? this might make a good project to do once i get back home.

I've never seen before/after dyno.

I do know that the stock 22RE AFM and TB are sized very closely in terms of area. You can use a 5M TB (60mm) on a 22RE with a little porting of the upper and some creativity in terms of the throttle cable setup.

The alternative is to run a 58mm ported TB. LC gets almost $300 for the TB. I believe they're sourced through RC Engineering, so they might "do" one for less - as would a qualified machine shop.

If you're doing these mods, use the upper plenum with the straight neck, as that's likely to help also.

Note - Toyota didn't engineer these things with big intentional restrictions, so replacing one part and leave everything else alone will often result in limited gains - if any gain at all. If it were me, I'd consider doing these mods if I had a bit of head work and an exhaust system.

Sig fixed, BTW.
