Look on Craigslist or if you want a more in depth project look in the junkyard, look around the neighborhood and see you find one that the owner is willing to sell. I can't answer the second question or the third, I'm learning about my Toyota more and more everyday and something like that hasn't came up

Any quality locksmith can provide a key blank and cut a key for you.
Were you planning on cutting the key yourself?

Even Kmart or Walmart can cut you a new key if you have the old one and are just looking for a spare. Just take your old key to the service desk.

Your local Ace Hardware should have a key blank for you. And it will be a whole lot less than what a locksmith will charge.

Hey mine too! Did you have to fish the second piece out of the lock? Only the tip broke off on mine, took me all day to disassemble the door and get that stupid thing out! But I had a spare.

When you get a new key made, have two made and save yourself the headache if it ever happens again. There's some pretty good spots to hide a magnetic box if you get creative... (I also have a kill switch though).

He can try Ace Hdwe or similar, but with the key broken into two pieces, I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for them being able to grind a new key. Places like that depend on a good key to start with as a template.

Nobody has mentioned that if you go to the dealer, they will cut you a new key for $12 and all you need to bring is your title and the lock code off the passenger door lock.

I was extremely surprised that the keys I had before did not even look like the new keys from 28 years of wear.

1. what ftbshop said. Dealer is your best option, vin, title (or other proof of ownership) and/or lock code if you know you have a set of door locks that all work off the same key.

3. yes the 86/87 pickups are identical, If you want your door locks and your ignition to match you'll have to go to a locksmith and have them all keyed the same or buy a new dealer set.

Ok, I missed that detail when I first posted.

It all depends on if they are willing to try or if they have the capability/skill. Usually, if someone comes into the store with a key in two pieces, I'll grind them a new one, but I won't guarantee it will work. Most of the time they do work. Again, it all depends on their willingness and skill. I'm always willing, just because I like a good challenge If he can fish out the broken piece from the lock, it would be worth a shot to try his nearest Ace. If the new key doesn't work, he'll only be out $2.99 or so.
