What's with all the numbers??? I shift into "D" at 0mph and it takes me past 80mph!! Just takes me 10 minutes to get there...

I'm lazy.

Also, what's this "speedometer" you all speak of? I have a small triangular shape that sticks out of my dash that I use with the sun...

but i'm also not about to try shifting at 5k rpms either
to the people who say it has 'plenty' of power - well yes, it does have enough, if you drive the ÅÅÅÅ out of it, but then there goes your gas milage
I shift around 4300-5000 and have popped out of gear a time or two and bumped it to around 6500 with no problems. Scared me a first but she was ok.
I get bad gas mileage but i drive hard and fast always have and always will. Fast lane is for people going fast if your doing under 80 move the hell out of the way.

i dont get it, if i take my engine over 4100 RMPs it sounds like its going to come apart. i cant tell if its noise coming from the intake/exhaust or actual noise from inside the engine. it just sounds bad. it also seems like it looses power if i go any higher then that too. then engine is basically new with less then 5000 miles on it. i pulled the valve cover this past weekend just to make sure the chain guides were not broken and i also looked at the valve cover to make sure the rocker arms went hitting the cover but but everything was good inside so im stumped. anyone got any ideas?

I would make sure your valves are adjusted... Mine was louder at 4K+ but sounded healthy with 160K on the clock...

Oh hell yeah I can go to 20.. That's when I shift into 2nd. I shift into 3rd around 35-40mph, and 4th at 45mph. If I'm going to be going faster than 45 for a long period of time I'll shift into 5th, but typically I go into 5th around 55mph. I shift by sound though, I just know those are the speeds.

My truck struggles to go faster than 80. And 80 is pedal almost to the floor wide open. Being a light truck, it shakes at that speed. On the highway I hang around 65-70.

I don't have a tach, nor do I really care for one.

had them checked after 2000 miles and they were all fine. one thing i noticed too is free reving it while parked it doesnt seems to make the noise but, while in gear and under load it does. so once again

so this morning coming home from work i wanted to see what the engine sounded like up high again so i took the truck up to about 4900+ RPMs in 2nd gear and it was SCREAMING loud! right as i got to 4950 the truck bogged down pretty bad like (i hit the brakes) and i let off instantly. truck runs fine and it didnt make any odd noise other then the loudness it was already making. i didnt try to duplicate it but it scared the hell out of me. any ideas what would cause it to do this?

sorry to go off topic a bit but i do not have a tach in my gauge cluster but i want to get one. does anybody know if there is a hookup for the tach just hanging behind the cluster so that if you take it out and put in a new one with a tach you can just hook it up and vwala you have a tach.

Rev limit

Hey guys. i dont see how you guys are turning over 5k rpm. my toyota in first gear plum to the floor might turn 5100 rpm. and not even close in any other gear. i am lucky to get to 4500 when accelerating.. i am also getting poor mileage. i go between 50-60 in fourth gear. (My truck doesn't hardly have enough power to use fith.)

I shift at or below 3k until it's warmed up. I find that cruising around on the flats I get the best mileage between 2400-2800 rpm (so shift at around 3k) .In the mountains I do best staying in a gear that returns around 2800-3200 rpm (shift around 3300). I usually average 21 mpg, but I am always mixed between city and mountain driving. Rarely do I see a freeway. On steep hills I'll run it out to almost 4k if necessary.
Sidenote: Anyone else find 35 mph speed limits to be very annoying because 2nd is higher than I like (especially when I am just leaving the house before it's warmed up) and 3rd is too low for any hills (rarely do i see a flat road).

I would guess you have something wrong with your motor. Maybe the cam is timed wrong, or your injectors need to be removed and sonically cleaned? But in lower gears it should rev like its going out of style!

No, but I have the 3.0 and I DO notice a incredible gap between 3rd and 4th. 3rd I will rev out to 3500-4000, change to 4th and it drops back to like 2500 and then just dies. It seems any road with an incline of 5-8% I get stuck changing back and forth from 3rd to 4th. Ill usually give up and jus sit in 3rd at 3500 rpm doing about 70 (kmph).

Im sure they have reasons for gearing it the way they did, but I would much rather a 4th gear thats down towards 3rd more, and a 5th gear thats higher up so that I can get better fuel economy on the flat highways (like an overdrive)

I haven't a clue what I actually shift at (no tach) but I try and shift before the truck sounds like it's ripping itself apart. Usually I shift to 2nd around 15 MPH (grind), 3rd around 25 MPH (grind), 4th around 35ish (whew) and 5th (grind) if I'm level ground around 40-45 MPH. Dumb synchros.

What was sad to me was the first weekend I had it I merged onto the highway and thought to myself "I need a little more oomph here" only to realize I was already pegging it on the floor.

So much different than what I'm used to.

where can I get this done at? I am only getting 15 mpg with a new o2 sensor (densoe), isr, 268 torqr cam, header with thrush welded 2 1/4 pipe, egr and all other nonsense things removed!

I usually shift between 2500 and 3000 RPM's , the only time I go over 3k is when I'm climbing a hill. That helps me get around 20 MPG in the city and 25 hwy
