How to fix your passenger sliding seat? Later model 4Runner seats into 1st gen?

Both sides of my cable are busted and gone so I have to manually slide mine in the 88 with a screw driver. It's getting old and I'd rather just fix it. I've seen it fixed but can't find the thread. Link?

I've also got a set of gray leather 3rd gen seats I'm considering swapping into my 88 or my 90 4Runner. Anyone done this?

No link I know of but my buddy has 96 runner seats in his 84.

On the cable for the slider there is a little "junction". You can pop it open with a chisel and rig a new chunk of bike brake cable into it.

Pretty sure I can figure it out just looking to not reinvent the wheel.

Be nice to get a leather set of 3rd gen seared in my 88 with power options

We all know this forum is so loaded with dead end threads it renders the search function useless or unreasonable 8 out of 10 times.

I had the same problem when I got my 86 4Runner, but I got lucky and found a good replacement seat cable at pic n pull. If you have one near you it might be worth a shot to see if you can find it there.

I'll be sure to post up how I fix it so this isn't a dead end thread. Seats will get swapped eventually but that will be in the build thread.

I'm curious to see how you do this as well. My cable is mostly intact. It snapped where the cable attaches to the back of the seat on the left side...right above where the seat actually pivots back and forth. I tried soldering the cable back together and worked for a little bit but recently broke again. Maybe I can get those crimp things to work that TinMan used in that link...

I need this too. I have three passenger seats, all with bad cables. It's easily worth $35 bucks!

Yup, pretty sure that's who I went thru to fix mine. Brand new cable assembly.
