I got 197,000 now. Power is adequate...for an engine that's missing 2 cylenders. Gas mileage is sometimes, but other times it gets around 20MPG, and it's times like those, that remind me why I put up with her...

I just bought this truck with 210,000 miles on it and the rod knocking. The guy who had it before me said that he got the engine rebuilt at a shop at 175,000. Obviously they did a poor job at it. Either that or the guy didn't attempt to do any maintaining with the vehicle. I have the engine out and was going to do a rebuild but just decided to go the easier (and expensive) route and get a jdm engine.
I personally wish I had done more research before buying this 4Runner. I would have loved to get one with the 22r instead. A lot less power but a lot less hassle it seems to. (and a better candidate for the diesel swap too)

303k mi +, Everything else failing but not a headgasket, Only HG done was recall and that was done before I got it at 68k, I run the hell out of it and still only have to add 1 qt every 1-1.5k mi.

But as mentioned, Since 8/06 Ive been fighting a nonstop of failing parts other then the longblock itself, Never a single code exept for bad sparkplugs and EGR control modual (No sensor on those, Go figure).
Now I finaly got cought up with it all the worst code of all pops up, Code 52, I think its a hint that it wants to be laid to rest.

Somewhere right around 220k on my 94 pickup. HG and head rebuild was done under recall at 140k. I bought it at 175k and haven't had to do much except regular maintenance since then. I normally get between 23 and 24 MPG which seems decent to me.

Maybe cuz it's a good, reliable motor that goes forever. I like it, but it could use some more power...

wish those smaller diesel motors would become available here in the U.S. im not trying to get off topic but somebody should develop better ways to drop in a newer larger more fuel efficient motor in these early ifs trucks equipped with the 3.0.... Tim.

Why put a new one in, just block off the ERG and reduce your smoke.( unless of course it would put you in breach of some wierd state law)

I have blocked the ERG on my 2LT and now get very little black smoke when engine is under load.

100 miles away from 200,000, stock HG no major repairs, just do your tune ups and oil changes

I got ~193,000. The HG was replaced under warranty a while back and I need to do the the timing belt/water pump very soon. Overall a reliable engine albeit not the best power or efficient fuel consumption.
I'm hopeful for close to 300,000 with regular maintenance. My celica 22r almost hit 300,000 before in got donated; still running strong.

3.0 miles

I have 218,000 on a 3.0 and it runs great. Had the HG done at 214,000 and came back Sunday from a 1,100 mile trip just Saturday. I got 17-18 on the highway w/ the cruise at 70. BTW, I found that if you keep the cruise around 3,000 RPMs, the loss of power going up and down hills is minimal.

I did find I was getting about 13-15 MPG in the hills between Hazard, KY and London, KY for those of you who are familiar with that area.

Bought my Runner in August of 2007. Now showing 223,9xx miles. Auto trannies must be the gas suckers, cuz you guys claiming 18 MPG all have the manual trannies. Do not know how many previous owners or their maintenance habits. Just seafoamed the gas tank, do the intake when it's a little warmer. Will check with the stealership on recall HG.

going strong

got a '95 with 218k. Head gasket is original as far as I know, new radiator, new exhaust, first new set of O2 sensors just installed, new spark plugs just installed (probably for the first time in the vehicles life also)

Runs strong!
