Help!! NEWBIE
Hey...Well this is my first post here and I have a question. I am looking at buying an 86 4runner and I would like some advice. Here is the link to the ad
http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/car/442591406.html
What do you guys think? I was thinking that because i want to use it as a driver that i would have to replace the welded gears in the front. Will this be hard? Any things to look at when I am buying a 4runner? It was repainted black and it has all new brakes. Any questions I should ask the owner?
Thanks for the help....

Truck was run in Four Wheeler's Real Truck Club Challenge and is semi-popular in West Mi... lol
Truck runs GREAT, ODO reads 231k but real is unknown... does NOT burn oil, doesn't even puff when you start it. Many new parts, just put new fuel filter in it to, all it really needs is a rear brakeline, I blocked rears at master and have driven it this way for 3 weeks. Runs down the highway at 80 no problem.
I have put all new ignition in it, Header, Exhaust 2", Alignment, Deck/Speakers, Oil, Plugs, Filters, Calibrate TPS....
New:
new Tailgate with window
Fenders
Grill, lights, wiring, seats, misc.
Headman Header, Cap, Wires, Rotor, Plugs, exhaust, couple cans of paint, TONS of misc.
Rear is 5.29's with spool, front is 5.29 welded...
Tires are 33x13.50x15 Swampers and 3 are like new... 95% One of them got hot from a bad caliper and got smoked so it is pretty well bald. The caliper and many other frontend parts have been replaced since.
This is a good running truck, I drive daily down the highway at 75+, and is also a VERY capable mud/trail truck. If you have any questions please call.

You'll be putting money into it. If you can't work on it, stay FAR away from it - as it's been heavily wheeled, it may be twisted or have other issues.
$1300 is cheap, but it sounds like it's shoddy... Buy one in good shape at $2k-$3k - if he's driving w/o rear brakes, I seriously doubt if he's a real "caring" owner...

Sheesh.. what's a rust free one worth up there?
That'd sell for about $400 down in Tx.

grab the first one if you can (86) but check it out. if that guy put as much as hes saying in, go check those headers. i dunno since its got over 200k but hell its a toyota. at least everything is fixed you know?
if you know how to work on engines/ trucks, i would personally take the 88 black 4runner that needs "body work". that thing only has 114k on it! your good for at least another 100k before anything happens! and if all goes well maybe even 100k more! i would take this one my friend. just my advice its your truck. (ps. if the engine is rusted, im not sure i would take it.)

Being from arizona I wouldn't pay squat for a rusted car/truck/suv came on out here and get a resut free ride for the same price. Then on your long drive home you'll figure out everything that needs to be fixed or replaced.
