Dude not much longer on that. The motor is going in hopefully in a week or two then the SAS is getting done in the beginning of august. Like I said 3 months ago you can have em for $80.

My plan now is to stop and listen to people that know what they are talking about, aka the big rig mechanic who has a 25 year background in building race cars and only offers his services to me and my dad because he works on my uncles trucks. I'm gonna go with the Jasper 3.0 and let him drop it in for the $5000. It comes with a 3 year 30,000miles warranty that he says is awesome, as in no "That happened offroad!? VOID!".

After that is done The truck is going to a fabricator out by Clayton that does crazy truck work. Hes doing the SAS and rear lift kit. Then I need to chill out with the truck and pay down my $7000 in credit card/ loans I'll have racked up.Between the motor swap and the SAS I'll be doing sliders and bodywork/paint.

Then I can finally come put the BJ spacers in. I'm gonna get the swiftest kick in the ass from my parents when I goto order Longfields and the stuff to do dual cases.

YEa I am pretty broke myself, I just bought a racequad that needs about 250 dollars worth of repairs and parts or so.

I wanted the spacers but I just dont have the cash and dont wanna be in debt, as it is I owe about 2k on my T100.

Maybe when we get a chance we can at least meet up for a few and grab a bite to eat or something and talk gearhead! Does your fabber do custom bumpers and stuff? I need bumpers and sliders sooner or later.

Why not go turbo diesel? The 3.0 and 3.4 are not worth the hassle

If your not going to use that bellhousing I would be interested if it fits a 327 to yota 5 speed trans. Starting the 327 build now with 202 heads mid rise with 650 holley and hope to make no more then 350 hp trying not get to radical but need the rest to set it in the runner (1990 )

I bought my 4Runner 3.0 with a blown up motor. I have a rolled parts car that i bought for $500. I swapped the motors, and replaced all the seals, and belts, and hoses. Most of the money i spent was on parts. I think i spent like $400, or $500 on replacing worn, old or cracked parts. I did most of the work myself. Its not that hard, it just takes patience, and lots, and lots of labeling all those vacuum lines, and wires. I did it in a week, working about 4 hours a day for 5 or 6 days. Stick with the 3.0. Its a good motor, all you gotta do is add gas, and oil, and you'll never have to touch her again for about 75,000 miles. thats only if you brake belts due to seized power steering pumps, though.

I thought the R150 is a 2WD trans? Just buy a half cut and be done with it.

I hope your 125k $3800 engine blows a head gasket
With an attitude like that there's no doubt in my mind that you're a toyota tech....

I can't believe you'd try to justify a $6800 engine into a truck that's worth maybe $5k. With math skills like that the only hope you have for a career is at a toyota dealer.

I think your idea of not coming here anymore is a good one.

Talking

Here ya go, this'll help a bit with the pricing...3.4 w/ the tranny. Might not be the exact thing your O/T was headed for, but JDM's a good company to work with, never had any problems with them ever.

Another option if you want to just replace with another 3.0 would be Import Engine Specialties www.overbore.com. Speak to Mark. $1795 Engine/$350 core. 3 yr./60K mi. warranty. Mine has 400 miles so far..runs great.

Wow $3000 for a diesel half cut that is pretty reasonable. Maybe down the road when this 3.0 is blown and I have a shop to actually do it in. As of right now it needs to be a cut and dry swap. This mechanic is doing me a huge favor cutting a lot of labor and shop occupancy time charges off my bill. Plus as of right now I have an experienced (not that I'm discreditting anyone) mechanic telling me a Jasper motor has the best warranty around.

don't forget the oil cooler cost ($400-$500) if you go with Jasper plus $750 core fee. Plus current Jasper cost is like $3200. Big $$$.

IMHO if you have to ASK someone else how much they will charge to do an engine swap (to a different type of engine)... you shouldnt be involved in a swap.

In short - if you have to ask you cant afford it.

If you are aying OMG - its way too much - my guess you dont have experience with irate customers call backs.

BTW - Jay Leno is a seperate case all together.
He pays a staff FIRST and then gives em stuff to do.
It must be the coolest mechanic job inthe world to work for Jay

Why do you say that? If you have a shop that you know and trust, why not ask them how much they'll do it for? That just doesn't make sense - just like the 5000 or so posts telling some kid who lives in a small apartment to "make your own" bumper.

I agree with you... That was an ignorant statement.

If you're shopping for a Ferrari I would say that but not for an engine. The simple fact along that prices vary several thousand dollars between shops alone is reason enough to ask how much.

you are nucking futz if you spend that kind of coin on a 3.turd, take it from the head futz. You might as well stick you pecker in a meat grinder.

For that kind of coin you could easily have a supercharged 3.4
