Electrical Glitches when turn on and off general switches. What could it be.
Hi team,
I think I have to get ready for verbal beat down. I unknowingly jumped my truck from a diesel truck. Not sure if it was 12 or 24 volts. (Only one battery). I jumped my truck while his was off.
I'm experiencing weird glitches in the lights and stereo now. Any time I turn a switch on or off (lights, brake peddle) every flickers or stalls for a bit. Once the engine hiccuped.
I check the voltage while the truck is running and it stays steady at around 12.5V. I revved up the engine and it did not go past 12.5. Make me think the alternator and voltage regulator are fine.
What else could it be?
Thanks for your help.
Christopher

You should be getting 13.2+ with the alternator charging. There is a connection point/terminal on the drivers side fender (in a little black plastic"box") that connects the alternator wire to the main wire that leads over to the battery. Check that connection for power. Unless it was a bulldozer the diesel truck was 12 volts (going way back to the 70's) so that shouldnt have caused a problem. I would sooner suspect that the lack of charging may have been what caused the need for the jump in the first place?

Well I'm a dork. Battery terminal was not connecting. Lots of corrosion. It took a file to knock off the oxidization. I do find it funny I did all the hard diagnosing first.
I can rebuild an engine, but I can't check the battery terminal.
Thanks for the replies.
