My 92 was doing this, it was the O2 sensor wire that had been rubbed raw and was shorting out on the exhaust heat shield.

Ok... the only "fuel pump relay" is the open circut relay. Theres no "fuel pump" relay on the drivers side kick panel.... you prob replaced the Main relay or the EFI relay... Check the Open circut relay with the resistance tests. You can energize it and see if its operating prop. Check grounds.

Just had a similar problem on a PU. Checked all the usual suspects and just happened to notice the wiring harness on the engine diagnostics port where it touches the fender had a couple of rubbed through wires. Easy fix but it was well hidden so check the wiring harness there where it goes into the main harness. The EFI fuse if I remember correctly runs the heater in the O2 sensor and the OCR(I call it a fuel pump relay) and it runs a VSV for the the fuel regulator and the fuel pump so it has to be one of those but I bet you it is in that harness. Let us know what you find.

Yeah thats what the LONE toyota mechanic in my town told me to check, said he always runs into that on his 87 turbo runner.... I guess he has gone through three harnesses and is still workin out his bugs

Got the same issue with my 91 toy 4x4 right now. I had to use a paper clip to make it the last 2 hrs home. I just replaced my fuel pump caused I figured since my truck has 310,000 miles with the original motor and pretty much everything else, it didn't seem like a bad idea. Finished that yesterday and almost made it out of my driveway when the efi fuse popped. So I looked at the O2 sensor and saw some wires that had rubbed against the exhaust. Might work on it today and see if that fixes it or just might eat a bunch of hot dogs and hamburgers. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY
