diesel. mounted on the driver's side opposite the stock tank. i took measurements and a 29"x14"x14" outside measured tank will clear the driveshaft, cab and rear crossmember. it will also be level with the bottom of the frame. i think. i may need the make room for the filler neck. haven't got that far, yet.

The best one's I've seen are mounted in the bed inside of a tool box. That way you can easily remove them if necessary. Usually for WVO conversions. Will that clear the exhaust system? -Todd

i had planned to move the exhaust outside the frame on the driver's side to make room for the 2nd tank, but with this swap all of the dimendions and routing will change. besides, everything is on hold 'til i get the cash for the diesel swap

With a $4999 price tag, I would sell as much of the leftovers as I could.

Jarco only gets a Manual KZ-TE in about once a year so I guess I should start saving my pennies for next year.

I wouldnt put a manual one in if it were me. The manual trans are punchy, but nothing like the auto box models. The autos keeps the turbo spooled up throughout the gears so it's seems much more peppy than the manual.Plus, the manual trans models are rare as hens teeth. It's not so much that they're rare in Japan, just here. In Japan, people tend to hang onto them alot longer so they are higher mileage half cuts.

i'm looking at swapping my 3.slow in the near future its nice to see all the
TOYOTA choices diesels and gas, I'm leaning toward the diesels after driving one overseas smooth, with plenty of torque. was a toyota FX i believe..I'll be watching out for your threads for sure.

You are essentially swapping the entire drivetrain anyways including the wiring. Manual to auto would not be more difficult.

The ECU probably is transmission specific. I'll check the wiring diagram I have on a 1kz-te and repost.

If your gonna do a 5spd with a 5spd ecu it should be no problem at all, at least it isn't with a 3.4 swap. Even still there are those who have used an auto ecu and fooled it to make it work with a 5spd.

so if the only diference is the bell housing between the w56 and the diesel one is it posible to just order the bell hosing as a part and slap'er on (so to speak ). other question about how long does it take to do the swap?

Swaping a Diesel into a 3VZE truck is harder mainly because of the engine mounts. But the Bellhousings should match up.

I don't remember reading if it was a LHD or RHD...

This thread is absolutely awesome. I may drop you a line and come by when I come home (Georgetown) again. I would just like to see it. I wonder why Toyota didn't sell any diesels in the US? They definitely should have.

my only question about this is how do you get around emmissions? toyota didn't sell any diesel's here so your truck is registered as a gas motor. i know your allowed to swap a gas into a diesel but not so sure about the other way. who would be able to certify something like this? texas is a big state so maybe you can get around it in some counties down there?

Diesels are emissions exempt in Texas. I have friends in California who have swapped in diesels and have had no problems registering them. You can buy only the engine and with the w56 5 sped trans, bolt them together but I recommend you not go about it this way. The little things will nickle & dime you to death. With the half cut, you get everything you need and can see how it goes from the factory. All I'll have to buy is a little oil and coolant (& beer

they are exempt here also (maryland) but the truck you want to swap it into isn't because the VIN says it's a gas motor. that's the part i'm wondering about, guess i'll talk to the people at the testing station and see what they say.

thanks

When you register the vehicle, you register it as a diesel. On my previous swap, the title said "turbo diesel" for fuel type. You will definately get alot of gas station pumps turned off on you while filling cause they think you are putting diesel in a gasser. Happened to me every time for about a month after the swap. Even when you tell them it's a diesel, they look at you incredulously as if you dont know what you're talking about.Funny huh?

ok, i'll ask about that also. just wondering what the MD DMV will do when i say diesel as when i tried to register my 79 f-150 supercab with the original 79 title they got all out of whack because there computer only showed a 79 f-100.

thanks alot, would love to see more in depth write up on this.

Would somebody have to give you a deposit first before you order the clip? And is it $5k for a complete swap start to finish? What about interior trim if somebody had a 5spd and had you put the auto in do you put all the trim in or would it not work. And if they wanted the chip could you order that also and install it. I really like my truck but really dislike the 22re I know there are some that like it but I don't. Truck is a 91 5spd with a 22re thanks. One more question how long does the swap take?

how much would it be to buy/import the whole truck from wherever and convert to LHD? or would you run into inport tarrifs and restrictions?
