Detroit lsd(s) or Lockers; either with 5:29's
OK most of my driving will be snow/mud and trail not a ton of rocks and massive off camber so I assume the foot on the brake for engagement of LSD's isnt too much of a pain in the limited cases Id have to do it!
I just wonder if a locker rear and a LSD front might be a better option or just LSD f/r. Idont want to be replacing tires all the time as its a daily driver but Id like a ton of bite in the off-road.
I took the advice of the forum here and decided to lock and gear first then tires/lift. Either way just the gears and lockers/LSD will make a noticeable trail difference. Tires are most likely going to be 33's so I opted for 5:29 gears.
So:
LSD front rear
Lockers Front rear
LSD front locker rear
lsd rear and locker front???????

Brake bias is easy. Easiest with A/T. LSD front will be easier on your CV's. Locker rear is more positive.
I've run Detroit Truetrac LSD's F&R. They're "invisible". Ya don't know they're there. I'm currently running Aussie rear, LSD front. Good combo for me. I rarely drive in mud or snow.

I guess it all depends on how you are planning on using it. I would personally love to have a locker in the rear and a lsd up front. Although if you're only doing light trails and snow, you would probably be fine with lsd's in both front and rear, seeing as how tons of people get by in those situations with open diffs. If you're rarely in situations that lift tires off the ground, you probably don't need the locker. I've rambled quite a bit, but I guess what I'm saying is either you'd be fine. I wouldn't put a locker up front though. If you're just doing trails and snow, it'll bother you more times than it will help you.
One more thing, are you planning on going up to 35s? With 33s, 4.88 gears would put you closer to stock gearing.

X2 on not putting a locker in the front. I would do Locker rear/LSD front. I don't know what your budget is, but have you thought about Selectable? If he's got an Automatic with a 3.slow the 5.29's were the better choice for 33's.

yeah auto/3slo so 5;29's and they will be on 31's for a month or so. Selectable is out but LSD front and locker rear should work well with 32.11.50 or 33x12.50.
Detroit LSD front and ?WHAT? locker for rear! Selectable is not an option.

Well if you have the money, nothing beats a detroit. I run a detroit rear and love it. I hardly notice it at all. If your looking to spend less, really the only option is lunchbox, there are plenty of threads on here discussing them. Some people swear by them and others not so much. I was going to get one until I decided on my detroit.

how about lsd f/r and pull the ebrake out 2 small clicks just for engagement of lsd's? its auto but the resistance from the ebrake (barely on) should do the trick.

From what you're describing, FRT/RR Tractrac would probably work well, be invisible on pavement, but would cost almost as much as a selectable locker ($400 ea. for the locker, $200 in labour if all you did was have them reset the backlash, and bearing preload. You can do this yourself though.
I go a rear Aussie locker, or Powertrax No Slip (even smoother, but $100 more) personally, it cost $300 ($400 for the No Slip) and you'll probably find that you don't need a front traction-aiding device.

Im considering 32x11.5x15 or 33x10.5x15 possibly a 33x12.5x15 (Just a little concerned with rubbing and tire arch to fenders.
So:
Is there a big difference in wheeling between 32's and 33's?

I would do the 33x10.50, and like I said before, a locker rear. Personally I think a locker rear would do better than LSD f/r. Its more predictable and gives you 100% traction all the time.

OK I think I can swing detroit LSD front, Aussie rear, 5:29's and used (80%+ tread left) 33x12.5x15's. Then I just need to lift it piece by piece in the near future.
