I just bought a 1986 4runner with 10k miles on it, its been preserved in my grandpas garage almost since the day he bought it.
I just gutted the interior (no carpet), SAS'd it full width dana 60's, duals with no body lift drivetrain lift and welded in a new tunnel. Put in aftermarket guages ditched the stock sr5 cluster, ac in the garbage
bobbed it back to the rear axle with a 4 link rear.
jk.. but seriously QUIT YOUR BITCHING! let the guy do what he wants. Friggen Web Wheeling Whiners... sigh
btw, i applaud you for very original modification and a job well done =)

My buddy and I stuffed his tall enduro under the rollbar of my 1st gen (top off, of course) by compressing the bike's rear shock with a ratchet strap run from the dropouts over the seat. We backed the bike in and strapped it in place, then released some tension from the shock so the bike snugged up under the roll bar. No rollbar removal necessary. Worked great but the fire roads we took into the BLM land before unloading the bike did compromise the structural integrity of the stock cargo tie points. I'm replacing them with solid rings soon.

I agree with most....why not just get a truck. But I do admire the creativity and working with what you have. And I know im digging up a pretty old thread. And it looks like the rear springs are relieved to not have the weight of the hardtop on there.
You should get a PU tail gate, and move your runner gate to the back of the cab to make the window work. That would be pretty cool.

My 86 came with the removable half truck bed.
I like having the rear seats out and the full truck bed.
It is much easier to stuff equipment and bikes into.
So are you going to sell your fiberglass top?

There was a 'rear seat delete' option available for the 1st gen 4runners. This would place a metal plate where the existing seats went, extending the bed right to the back of the seats. This would allow you to carry your dirtbike easily. I'm sure you can find one of those plates, and best of all, your truck can be brought back to stock.
The truck is yours; as much as I love mine, that doesn't stop you from chopping yours up (however much I'd be against it). What I would prefer is that the salvageable parts you choose to scrap (e.g. the seats) get re-used.

help please
im looking to mod my 4runner so i can fit my bike in the back, the pics of this forum will not show up, im looking for pics or so advice on how, what, so on and so forth what was done to seal... make 4runner into truck. I have tried to trade my 4runner for a truck bc i dont want to chop it up but my patience is out. any help will be great thanks.
