Code 12 After HG Job
Hi all,
Finally got my engine put back together! Fired it up the other day and nothing happened I had the Dist. in wrong >.< Got the dist. put back in tried again and it fired up. Set the timing, drove around the block, and got a code 12 I think I've read just about every post on here related to that code, but being new to engines and especially troubleshooting them I wanted to get some more input. I tried jiggling all the wires to the dist. cap and the connector to the harness ( blew that one out really well also ) reset the ECU and still getting code 12. Read one thread that suggested my tps could be the culpret, but I'm thinking that unlikely since i haven't messed with it (didn't even know it was there) and I'm getting no other codes that would point to that. So I'm thinking it's gotta be something with the dist. itself? My timing still seems to be a little weird, maybe i still don't have it in quite right? Or could the thing just be on its way out? I'm off work tomorrow so I'll look up the test procedure for the dist and give that a go. Could it be cap and rotor? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Also, possibly unrelated, the engine makes an odd sound, high pitched scraping-ish noise sounds like coming from the TB or maybe D-side valve cover. I haven't had this thing up and running for a while now so I don't really recall any of its usual sounds. I know the air filter and vafm always made a bit of a gurgling sound but this seems different than that, more like the very beginning of "Bodies" by The Smashing Pumpkins - for those of you that can referrence that song :-P Thanks again!

Yikes!
May have found the problem.... So, I took off the distributor cap today and discover about a billion and one little metal shavings inside! Looks like the rotor was grinding itself up (hence the horibble scraping sound on that side of engine perhaps?) So my question is how to procede from here...obviously new rotor and cap, but is the distributor toast with all these shavings in there? They are all magnetized so cleaning will be a b!@#& if not impossible...I'll post a pic if I can find my darned camera....

Yeah...isn't it awesome? So any ideas as to why my runner ate the distributor? I'd hate for it to go for a second course when I get the replacement...
