When I replaced the clutch in my 83, I tried the grease trick, by filling the pilot bearing hole with grease and then putting in a socket that just fit and then tapped that home, the out come would probably be the same regardless if I had used wet paper but instead of the bearing coming out, the outer side of the bearing came off, leaving me nothing to really push against.

I made a cheap puller out of a C-Clamp!

I had a very cheap 3" C-Clamp that I removed the screw from I placed a nut on screw the same size of the C-part of the clamp and then using the new pilot bearing as a guide bent a hook into it, I then put that through the hole of a large socket and hooked the old bearing and used the nut to apply force to the socket and "pull" the bearing out, at first I didn't think it was going to work but all at once it just popped out.
