check engine light help

i have a 93 3.0 pick up that has a check engine light. the code according to my chiltons manual is a code 71 for the egr. does anyone have any suggestions how to test this or what the problem might be.

Could be a vacuum leak in one of the hoses, could be the modulator, could be a plugged egr port, if it has the temp sensor it could be bad or could be the valve itself. Lots of different part for the egr system. You should probably have someone diag it for you. Take it to a reputable shop

Look on the sticky for this site, there is a factory manual there. There is a trouble shooting diagram and procedure for code 71. I agree the problem is probably just a vaccum hose, you can diagnose this code yourself. Don't just start replacing parts, some of them are well over $100, and may not fix the problem.

Also , there are many threads on code 71 on this site. They will give you a feel for the problem.
