Can't find parking brake cable 86 2WD Pickup
Hello everyone,
I bought an '86 2WD Pickup, 4cyl manual short bed, in February and had been working on fixing it up and rebuilding it. Everything was going fine, I fully rebuilt the front end, I have the back end all apart, I fixed a few parts of the frame that were rusted out, sand blasted / wire brushed and painting everything, until I went to put the rear end together.
I can't find a rear right parking brake cable. Toyota OEM websites show that they make left ones, but the right ones are discontinued. I broke mine when I was taking it apart, thinking I would be able to buy a new one.
Any advice? Know of anyone who's selling one that would fit my truck? Think I could buy a left one (they are different) and weld a plate on to fit the attachment point? Is there a good way to fix the cable, I actually just melted off the little lead (maybe aluminum) rod from the end, but its also really pretty rusty and crappy anyway, so a new one would be prefered. I don't really think I should try and run without a parking brake ha!
The cable is about 69", or I think the actual part says 68 3/8" or something like that. I could find tons of the 77" and 84"(?) ones for extended cabs and long beds and 4x4s, but none for mine. I've been at a standstill with my rear axel off my truck for a month now because of this stupid part.
the other side is swapped, so opposite bolt pattern. If all else fails I will weld a piece to the backing plate and just use a left cable
