Im pretty sure im going to de-chrome the truck now. I figure, hey, if I don't like it. I could replace all the parts for around 100 bucks anyways.

"94runner4x4" can you give me the link to your de-chroming page? Im not sure what kind of paint to use on the ABS plastic grill.

I was going through it and noticed I didn't mention the type of paint...It's Rust-Oleum Black Textured Spray Paint with a Fine Textured Finish and I also used Rust-Oleum Primer. I was actually going to do a better write up on it, but never got around to it because of school and work. Hope this helps!

Thanks, but I think it looked better before. I didn't do it for looks, I was trying to increase the air flow to the radiator. It did help.

Yep! It was on my 91 pickup. It fit perfectly with the mesh. The v6 emblem just stuck out too far, so Im not planning on running it, though I have a spare set of emblems from a 90 4runner that im gonna chop up and have some fun with.

I was hoping to paint all the chrome with a nice glossy black paint, I want it to look factory ....actually better then factory!

looks great!! I blacked out my rear end cause my bumper was getting eaten up from the salt water and Ive been thinking of doing the front too and changing the grill to something similar. I love the flat black. I actually used a spay can of bedliner it has some texture to it and looks cool. Just scuff it up and it bonds really well.

i love the chopped valence under the bumper. been thinking of doing that to my truck after seeing yours. did you just cut it with some shears/snips? or did you use a grinder/sheet metal cutter? also, does the new cut edge wrap around or does it just end where you cut it? the new grill looks clean, especially with the older toyota script. i've never really been a fan of the cowboy hat-toyota symbol. i see that you secured the grill pieces to the signals by threading the screw through the mesh, but how did you secure the main part of the grill? i see you ditched the v6 symbol...it's weird that i always find myself scoping out other trucks on the road to see if they have the v6 symbol, or are rockin' the 22re like me.

I used my metal snips and followed the natural lines on the valance. I wanted to make the top wrap all the way around, but the real reason I did that was because the valance was ripped off by my tire last season on a wheeling trip. The drivers side was run over and the corner was just to bent to save. I came up with something that got rid of the bulk of the wrecked metal but still looked okay.

If I had another one I would keep the top part till it ended in the stock posistion, not ending where mine does.

To keep the new grill in place I bent each side so there was a tab, then I drilled holes through the grill housing and secured it with a bunch of zap straps. They are hard to see, except the few white ones (ran out of black).


Im the same way about the v6 badge I wouldnt mind keeping it, but like I had said, it would require modification to look good. I mocked it up and it stuck out quite far.
