I run a 3 inch body lift...you saying mine is a mall crawler? Please man...Unless you've RUN a 3 inch bodylift and you've had problems, dont say you shouldnt do it...or that if you do it your a mall crawler. Thats th eproblem with the internet..everybody has an opinion, but there opinions are based on what someother guy typed from his computer 3 months ago...70% or people who give an opinion have NO personal experiance with what they are voicing there opinion on.

That's my biggest problem with this forum. It's full of web wheelers. It amazes me that people think one inch is like a foot or something. If you can make a 2" work you can make a 3" work.

All I had to do to my shifters was have them cut and extended (in the right place) and notch the shifter plate a little and mine shifts fine with the stock boots on in the correct position. It's not rocket science it just takes a little fiddling.

The part I think is the funniest is that if someone is looking for 3-4" of lift, he only has 2 options if he doesn't want to SAS - a body lift or a bracket lift. Anyone that says a body lift sucks is basically recommending a bracket lift and those DO suck. The bl is much more reliable then the bracket lift if you wheel the truck hard and is a fraction of the cost.

I just don't understand this place sometimes...

Trustyrusty, I got mine from Performance when I bought it but honestly if I was buying today I think I'd get one from 4crawler. You might end up spending a hundred bucks more or so but you know you'll be getting good stuff.

Either way, if you do a good installation you'll be fine.

I would be hesitant though to buy a used kit. There will be parts missing, parts rusted, and parts worn out. I think I'd do a custom kit before I'd do a used one. Do it once, do it right...

I had a body lift on my lifted 2wd 87 which was 3" along with a 4 inch suspension lift. I jumped the truck many, many times with zero issue with the body lift. Just make sure you check and see if they are tight. Now I have a 3" body lift on my 89 ext cab 4wd and had no issues with it. Mine is automatic and the biggest pain was extending the transfer case lever by cutting it and lengthing it a couple of inches other than that it was easy. Both my bodylifts were Trailmaster and came with everything I needed except the rear bumper bracket. My vote is for Trailmaster body lifts.

This thread is a bunch of conjecture and internet hoopla.

Body Lifts are the cheapest and best way to fit a larger tire on these trucks. They will not improve your flex, nor your ride quality. Putting 33's or 35's on your truck is WAYY worse for safety than a body lift is.

I argue for a 2" simply becasue out here, a 33 is about all you want on these trucks if you wheel much at all. 35 is possible, but it will increase breakage issues. Obviously It varies place to place, there are places where the terrain is mellow enough to allow for 35's or 36's. Depending on where you are, you'll have to judge on what is best for you. Here, you want to keep the suspension as stock as possible. Any deviation from stock leaves you with bent and broken steering, and some cute trail repairs. Ask me how I know. BL is the way to avoid jacking with the suspension, and get on a wide 33.

However, along with the BL, I also recomend tucking your belly the same amount with a drivetrain lift. Super cheap, and simply the best way to get clearance.

I absolutely agree with you AxleIke... If there were rocks down here, and I went on them I would not have a bracket lift on my truck or 36's. IFS is breakage prone enough in its stock form on the rocks. I wouldn't push my luck too much.

When i do go off it's mud, sand, hills and trails. I stay out of the bad stuff.

agreed^ I dont know what im gonna do when we take our trip to RAUSCH CREEK...huge OR park, but a lot of rocks Im gonna be using the bypasses. As for a belly up, im looking into that now. 7 inches of lift,36s and a belly up... now thats some clearance.

At least try the obstacle T750, if you don't make them, not to worry, but give er a try at least. Just remember to avoid slamming the gas pedal down, and try to avoid "ramming" stuff with your front end.

Belly up is just a great way to improve breakover angle, which, is pretty bad in these trucks. Not LB F350 bad, but its not great.

Hello all. My neighbor bought a 83 Yota 4x4 and put a 3" body lift on it. Now neither one of the shifters will shift. (standard) He asked me what he might do to fix the problem and I told him I would find a Toyota forum and ask there for him. (he's not into computers) Thanks for any help you guys may have.
