bit of an issue with my brakes..

so whenever im out cruising in my lovely 94 3.slow sr5 runner, and if i happen to go over a bump or hit a pothole while braking, my brakes basically fail for about 3 sec. this can be no bueno when you are driving with your lady. this has been happening for a while. what happens is right after i hit a bump i can feel my pedal rattle a lot, i can hear an odd buzzing noise through the firewall coming from the master cylinder, and my brakes wont work for like 3 seconds.

anybody know whats going on with my precious runner? im too afraid to do any wheeling with the brakes doing that after every bump

do you have the anti-lock brake system? if so, you will have to take it to have the system checked, unless you are a mechanic with all the fittings and pressure gauges that are required.
if not, there is no rational excuse for a 3 second delay in getting your brakes to operate unless there is a significant amount of air in the lines and they all need bled.

Did you check the fluid level in the MC? If you are low, the bump will let air in the line and then it will bleed itself out 3 seconds later.

mine does the exact same thing. 94 4runner 4x4. A solution to this would be great.

The buzzing is probably the rear anti-lock brakes. Does it happen with hard braking only or even with light braking? If I'm hauling down a dirt road or even a paved road and slam on the brakes the rear ABS will kick in if I go over a bump. Gradually slowing down I've never had that problem. It could be that your shocks are shot in the rear so you are getting a lot of bounce out of the back and a tire or both rear tires are loosing good contact with the ground. Is the CEL or ABS light on?
