Backspacing for the 15x7 SR5 alloys I know is 4.75"
Is the backspacing on the 15x6 stock steelies the same?



Sorry if this has been stated already All I can find is stock BS for the SR5's
Friend has a cheap set from his old pickup and I'm sick of wide, custom wheels with no backspacing....

On another note, I know Roger Brown has done this, but has anyone else run 33x10.5's on the stock 15x6's? Please share your experiences if so.

i would assume about the same, as i have 3.75 wheels with 9.5 wide tires and they give the truck a much wider stance than with the stock wheels.

I have some solid axle 15x6 steelies in my parts bin that measure at 3 3/8" backspace. A quality steel wheel as you can have the centers cut out and custom backspacing done by wheel builders. Not sure on 86 & up 15x6 as all I ever run into are the 15x7 steel wheels.

I believe I read somewhere the stock backspacing on the older, solid axle Toys was different. Rims from IFS trucks would have clearance problems on those trucks...that's what I read here at least...

I'm not sure what the backspacing is, never bothered to measure, but I am running 33x10.5 BFG's on stock steel rims. With the balljoint spacers the tires rub on the upper A arm.

Thats good to hear, got any pictures? How do the tires perform on the street? Does the balooning effect make the tires hard to wear evenly?

I'm not sure why that's good to hear, unless you mean you now know what not to do. I don't have any pics. The tires are fine on and off road. I'm not sure what you mean by the balooning effect. When I air down the tires rub worse, but my tires wear unevenly because the adjusters for the lower arms are rusted in place and I can't align it. When I do my brakes this week I'll take a grinder and grind off about 1/4" of the upper arm in hopes of curing the rubbing problem. Maybe I can take some pics of that to show everyone my lazy man fix to the problem.

Haha yeah I meant it was good to hear some feedback. You are right though, mechanically this is in no way ideal as I would be running with a 4.10 gear ratio, no lift, yadayadayada. It's definitely possible though as other people like jode on the board have done the exact same. I love the look though, of tall, narrow tires which fit nicely inside the fenders with no lift. Looking forward to those pics though -

Very nice. Exactly the look I'm after. Are you running 4.10's as well or have you regeared?

The ballooning effect I've read about is from the tire being run on such a narrow rim that it "balloons" or crowns the tire tread so that it wears unevenly. BFG M/T's in the 33x10.5 flavor are recommended being run on a minimum of 7" wide rim, but you seem to be fine on the 6" rims.

I regeared to 4.88's when I put in the ARB's. The uneven wear you are talking about is going to depend a lot on tire pressure. I run these at 50 psi for long highway trips, the contact patch is pretty small but it helps with mileage. For normal driving I run them at about 35psi and they seem to contact the road evenly, and off road I drop them to around 12.
