argh. the quest for a new truck continues. 4runner opinons?
Hey,
Found a new truck. What do you guys think of the price? 1989 4Runner, 22RE, 5 spd, 4x4 obviously. Gloss black paint, had a bunch of bodywork and brand new paint in October (presumbly rust repair). The finish looks brand spanking new like it just rolled off the factory floor. The chrome blinds you and you can see food in your teeth in the black paint reflection.
According to buddy the odo has 300,000km but he swapped it in from a junked SR5 so his mileage is more like 290,000km. He bought it and when he did the body work he did a frame restoration so the frame is very very clean with undercoating. 31x10.50 BFG ATs on stock painted-silver alloys, manual hubs, yada yada. This thing is real real real clean. Brand new safety last month and a new clutch the month before. I've seen it driving around town and I've always drooled over it.
His asking price is $4500 but he'll take $3500 and I bet if I show up with cash (he's hurting for money) around $3200 he'll bite.
Good deal or not? Runners seem to not bring in as much as pickups.. but DAMN I like this rig.
I'll post pictures if they're wanted but they don't do it justice. really.

Sounds good but find out if it was rust repair and by what means they repaired it. My 86 had a cheap rust reapir job and it came back 6 months later.

I'll ask for more details. I know he replaced at least one fender, the hood, and the rockers or quarters (or both?). This was from talking on the phone while driving by so I didn't really pay too much attention.
I've been seeing this truck driving around all winter so I know the repairs are probably better than temporary. The rust on my pickup has definitely gotten noticeably worse over the winter.
Did all 1st gen runners come with hitch receivers? I'll need a trailer to haul my dirt bikes now :/

DAMN was that picture taken in 1989 or 2007? A runner that clean would go for over 5-6k where i live. Id snatch that up in a heartbeat if i lived in your area and had the cash lol
