I've read of several members using long pliers to pull the PCV valve. Anyone have a pair that they could snap a pic of? The dealer wanted $190 to pull the intake and replace the PCV.

the problem is usually the rubber grommet that holds the PCV valve in place. I had to remove my valve cover, actually it was off during rebuild, and use a regular pair of pliers to pry the PCV and grommet out. Bought new gromment and valve.

But definatley take off the valve cover so nothing breaks off into the top of the engine.

yep, with the valve cover off i had to basically cut apart the grommet to get the PCV valve out. the grommet hardened over time and would not allow the PCV valve to budge so i cut out the grommet bit by bit then was able to remove the PCV valve. the grommet is a $2 part that is worth replacing anyways.

I am assuming you have a V6? The problem is that the grommet turns solid due to the heat and is very difficult to muscle out. I think you would have a hard time with those pliers because you need a lot of leverage.

I am getting some blow by the air intake hose. Also, I don't think it's ever been changed.

Like everyone says, the rubber groomet is going to be your enemy in this job. It maybe easier to remove than re-install. You will or should also replace the grommet at the same time. I never replaced one without removing the intake.

bad PCV + oil in the air box = IDK, how does that work.

Yep....what they said! Valve cover.
I just replaced mine two weeks ago. Six months ago, I tried for hours to remove/replace mine the "easy" way and found out the hard way that's not so easy to replace a simple little $3 part. I loosend my valve cover and that gave me enough room to get my hands in there.
Took a total of about 15 minutes.

i used a bent 12 inch long pair of needle nose on my v6 took a bit of time but.... got it done i did remove and carefully mark some hoses to get at it better !! girlfriend wasnt happy i used her nailpolish to mark each one different colors

Scored a set of 16" bent and straight nose long (needle) nose pliers from Harbor Freight for $15 specifically for this purpose. Getting valve and grommet out was the easy part. Trying to get that damn grommet back in was a pita. I hadn't planned to, but after fighting with it for a couple of days (few minutes here and there) and never wanting to do that again, I decided to do the PCV valve relocation mod. I'm putting that damn thing back together right now.

if you have the 22 motor just rip the guy out, if its old it'll shatter into pieces if that happens just pop the valve cover off (it's very EASY).

Use whatever you gotta to get it off. Pliers, crow-bar (haha) or a flat head screw driver. Both of our 87's I've replaced and was able to without removing the valve cover, both were old and hard as rock and cracked and fell apart but i was lucky and none fell ontop of the head.

So you drill out the old PCV valve and put it back on the valve cover and run the hoses from that? Then put the new one inline?
