'93 Dually Pickup EGR Valve Replacement

Hello all,

this is my first post. Hoping someone out there can help me. I deleted the EGR Valve a while ago, but now I want to find a replacement. The exhaust is too rich and stinks, and the check engine light wont turn off and it is reading EGR Valve.

The OEM part number is 25620-65022. Can't find it anywhere. Is there any upgraded or improved EGR Valve out there that might work. I got a Chinese one from Federated Auto but it would have needed some significant re-plumbing/re-routing solid tubing to attach it.

Let me know!
Thanks,
Nico

I believe the EGR valve 22RE Performance sells should work for your application. It is spendy, but should be a quality part.

You can contact them if you are unsure of the fitment.

By "reading EGR Valve" I assume you mean code 71: "With the engine coolant temp. at 60°C (140°F) or more, 240 seconds from start of EGR operation. The EGR gas temp. is less than 55°C ( 131°F) and the EGR gas temp. has risen less than 20°C (36°C) during the 240 seconds. (2 trip detection logic)". When you deleted the EGR valve, the gas temp sensor went with it, and so you've had code 71 ever since. (There is a way to "cheat" the ECM and make the code (but not the problem) "go away." It's a little more sophisticated than just deleting the EGR valve.)

If you replace your EGR valve, you'll also need the EGR gas temp sensor to go with it. Most folks who delete the EGR also trash the Modulator, the gas tube, and whole bunch of other very hard to replace parts. You might have more luck in a salvage yard.

The good news is that your missing EGR has nothing to do with the smell of your exhaust. The EGR valve doesn't affect mixture, and while the deletion really raised your NOx output, all of the NOx compounds are odorless (but still dangerous). Replacing your EGR system (even with all the parts) won't solve your problem. It lies elsewhere.

Good luck!

Scope103 question

Hey Scope103,

in response to your comment "Replacing your EGR system (even with all the parts) won't solve your problem. It lies elsewhere." I am wondering what repairs and changes need to be made to my ol' truck to improve the smell of the exhaust (and if possible the fuel efficiency of it - though the big uhaul box on it doesn't help fuel consumption). Do you mean O2 sensor, or what other systems and effect the exhaust.

I will print all of your comments and take them to my mechanic friend (from Honduras) He doesn't speak great english, but I will translate. He is a really fantastic and serious professional mechanic!

Thank you for your time. It is very helpful to me!

Nico

22RE - No luck!

Hello old87yota et al,

here is the response from 22RE parts: "sorry, looks like toyota has discontinued that part number. I do not have any good leads for you on an alternative since you are a V6 engine and we do not deal with those at all, so I don't know if there is a good aftermarket alternative. Sorry we couldn't help"

Any ideas now?

Thanks,
Nico

Running too rich may be a cause of the temp sensor out of range or unplugged, damaged?
