93 5-speed transmission query
Okay, got a 1993 4-cyl 22RE 4x4 5-speed manual.
its a great truck, virtually no rust anywhere, clean, runs well, reliable and so on.
transmission is apparently fine, clutch is apparently fine, but when i start it up first thing in the morning, second gear and sometimes third gear is really rough.
once i back out of the driveway, i start to head down a hill in first; thus the engine winds out fast and i move into second. Instead of "clunking" into place and second gear engaging, i hit what feels like a stop, as though i am improperly shifting. if i haul on the stick (and i know this sounds bad) i can get it to go into second and from there its fine. ive gone down this hill in the middle of the day fine, its only in the mornings. could it be cold temperatures, like letting the truck run for a bit work? ive tried it and nothing.....idk. any suggestions?s

When the shifter bushings wear out, you can get a number of problems - loose floppy shifter, a shifter that seems to block getting into a gear, and a shifter that pops out of gear.
The bushings are cheap and easy to replace.
Here is a post from this site that has a diagram and good info.

Best of luck,
