'91 3.0 A/C question......
1). Fan blower works great when on. A/C button lights up when pushed in. Compressor however does not engage.
2). Found the single wire to the compressor, and the grey male-female connector. Separated them and started engine. With dash switch OFF, no 12 volts to the wire terminal out of the harness loom, and no dash light On on the A/C switch. With A/C button ON, neither power to the wire terminal, nor is the dash light for the A/C on.
3). So I reconnected the terminals, cut off a bit of insulation around the upper side of the wire, wrapped & taped a seven inch piece of 16ga wire around that. Lastly I temp'd taped the other end of the jumper wire to the positive battery terminal.
4). Started engine, then turned on fan, then pushed in the A/C button. Voila,
dash light goes on and compressor engages. (and the rpm's rose to about 1200).
5). Set the A/C to max, closed all the doors, ran car for about 12 minutes. Opened the doors to find no drop in cabin temp, and no cold air blowing. Bummer.
6). The two fuses behind the glove box are good, as is breaker #29. So now I'm wondering if it's something simple (like being completely out of Freon) that somehow prevents the compressor/clutch to engage? Or could it be either of those two fricken switches under the dash that other members here mentioned awhile back. The two switches that are a nightmare to get to?
Would appreciate any advice you guys may have......

I would check to make sure you have freon in the system. The compressor will not engage if its low on pressure! Check that first then go from there. Hope dis helps u! Aloha!

Thanx 808----if I get a couple more answers like that I'll run over and invest the $22.00 in a recharge cannister and see if that solves it......
