4x4 issues

Alright... it's an IFS '87 and my 4x4 is not working.
front hubs locked, in 4x4 only the rear wheels are going.

I don't think my cv's are broken, but i have one front hub that is VERY tight and i have to lock it in with a screwdriver or something... as in its too tight to turn by hand.

Would that be enough to cause my problem?

if one of the springs in the hub has broken or popped off it could be stuck in the unlock position. just take the outer hub off and look at it. just mark it with a marker then take the 10mm bolts out with the hub set to free.
follow the instructions http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/

4wd light does come on and it will go into 2 low and all that. i'm kind of leaning towards the hub thing... my front brakes were done about 2 months ago also. i'll take a peek at the spring today.

thanks for the link btw

I bet the hubs are not put together correctly. Remove the cover and take a peek. They are a little tought to understand the first time (mostly the spring and prawl setup) but once you have done it once, its darn easy.

Here is the best picture by pictures writeup of rebuilding aisins that I have found. With it, the newest of noobs can rebuild these things.

I bet if you jacked up the back of your truck, locked the hubs and put it in 4wd. You will be able to see the cv joint going to that "tough" hub spinning. It will be the easiest axle to spin so all the power in the front will be sent there.

brake cleaned it all and rubbed some thick grease on it. feels like new.
