4runner tach question

I have a 89 4runner sr5 with the 22r engine. I had to junk it*tear*. However I bought a 94 pick before I did and started to swap the interiors. What I noticed was the 94 has no tach. Can I put the 89 cluster in and have it actually work or will I have to modify the cluster. Also when I removed it from the car I noticed a wire going to the cluster on the tach side.

Tl;dr have a 89 4runner tach and want to put it in a 94 pickup. Same engine and tranny

u will have to more then likely move wires in the 94 harness to make it work. also in 94 didnt they have a electric speedo. and the 89 is mechanical. it does sounds like someone might of added a cluster for the tach in the 89 or like me had a grounding issue and the lights didnt work and that was the fix.

89 and 94 clusters are not interchangeable without MAJOR wiring modifications, as well as adding a speedo cable.

I wouldn't bother, its not worth the hassle

ya, just go to a boneyard and grab one. The swap from a 93-95 isa pretty simple job... plenty of threads here covering that swap...

Would a 94 base 2x4 have a tach built into the ecu?
