You can now check my signature out for the intake! I highly suggest you look if you are pushing a 3.slow with a stock intake!

They have taken all the things wrong with this engine and beefed everything up. And a few choices to go along with it.
Simple swap , stock HP or higher, and all the problems fixed. Same price as all the other swaps, no hassle, and can do any add ons you like. Win Win win
no offense, man, but are you nuts? 9 grand for any kind of 3.slow is ridiculous, nomatter how many bugs they've ironed out. their big daddy high torque longblock makes a whopping 210 hp for 9gs. Do a v8 swap and be done with it. Hell, I bet you can have a supercharged toyota-made 4.0l 1uzfe v8 shoehorned into your 2nd gen soup to nuts for $9100!

yep, for 9g you could do a lot better than doa.
4.3 chev, 305/350 chev, 5.0 ford, or even build a few 3vze's for spares

very clever. I had a 4.3l v6 in a 90 chevy s10 blazer. I liked the engine and it would be great for powering this weight of vehicle, but those are 150k engines tops. Some fail much sooner than that just barely into triple digits. If you're a toy guy, the 3.4l is less powerful but more reliable, and the 4.0l v8 is about as powerful and much more reliable. Its a little tough to fit them in our left-hand-drive 4runners, but totally worth it. 2" body lift usually takes care of it, but you'd have to do that for most engine swaps, look it up.

here are the power numbers for various engines so far as I can find (most powerful and newest engine of each type used):
3vze toy 3.0l stock: 150hp 180tq
3vze toy 3.0l from DOA: 210hp ??tq ~220
chevy 90 deg. 4.3l v6 (newest and best): 200hp 260tq
chevy 90 deg 4.3l v6 (older more common for swaps): 130-165hp, 210-235tq
1uzfe toy 4.0l stock: 290hp 300tq!
1uzfe was also rated in the top 10 engines of 98, 99, and 2000, the last 3 years of its production.

Has anyone done or thought of doing a swap with the FJ's 4.0l? In the FJ brochure it says that the design is very compact.

I havnt seen one done, but there are more similarities between the 3.0 and the 3.4 than differences. The transmissions are very similar, for one. I'm also not sure how tough it would be to properly tune that computer-reliant of an engine without a p.h.d. in computer programming! It could be a lot simpler, I just havnt heard of anyone doing it, but if you do, let us know!
