So how can you tell if the EGR is acting up enough to affect the gas mileage? I know that if it's really bad it will want to stall the enigne at idea etc.

Mine was bad enough to keep the tranny from shifting properly. I think it was telling the computer that the truck never got up to temp. It was an indirect problem related to the entire egr system I think. I know it failed teh vacuum test for egr.

Everyone is going to get different mileage.

33 sounds unrealistic though, is yours 2wd?

People comparing stock tires to 31s are funny also, not comparable.

If you haven't got proper records over at least 6 months worth of tanks. You're figures for average MPG is just a shot in the dark at best. If you want to track it. You should make an excel or some other kind of spreadsheet. If you can't do that, get a notepad and keep it in the truck.

Be sure to include the percentege of offset different size tires gives you....Actually If you want to see how mine looks let me know. I'll try to send it to you.

I just took a trip to Denver and back, round trip of 165 miles. From what I'd read
about 20 or so seemed right. I was quite suprised to calculate 25.75 miles to the gallon! And my tranny is in bad shape (thus the trip, to pick a used trans) so most of the trip was in 4th gear. There was around 15 miles driven in town. And also the odometer is .025 slow (checked that on the interstate). This is an '87 4runner 22re, 225000+ miles. ??????????

Around town and to work, averaging around 20 mpg

When I stretch the legs out and get on the interstate, Around 22-23 mpg.

Lately I have noticed a little better all around. I also changed over the gear boxes (all of them) to synthetic gear oil and added an SR5 instrument cluster. I now drive by the tach and try to keep it under 2500 rpm. It took the wifes Sienna from 17 mpg to 24 mpg and the truck is showing the same promise now. On the interstate, the limit is 3000 rpm.

Like others, my truck is stock and my sig line shows the mods I have done.

It does help to maintain records of milage. I usually do it right when I get new gas onthe recipts. When I had my 4runner (getting it back too) I would get about 18 in town if I drive aggressive, 20 if I didnt. On the highway about 21-22, maybe more depending on where the wind came from. However, that was on a 87 4runner, 280k, 4" lift and 33s with 410s. Now I have no idea what it gets cause my little bro played with it. Oh, and it was a cali legal rig.

Mileage

Yes 95 Yoda . Mine is 2 wd. Turbo motor. 62 mph cruise, totally stock, and tires at 35lbs.. I might even get better than 33+ highway. since I,ve had a tuneup and havent taken it lately. I drive conservatively and rpm are at say 2400 on stock tack.

Hey sloth can you convert that to Miles per gallon. I have no sense of what 4 kms per liter is. Sorry about our stupid reluctance to go metric.

I pulled a trailer and got 14 mpg in my 22re. It must weight close to 2000 pounds. If you 22re is getting 14 empty not pulling something. THere is a problem.
