22RE coolant drain problem

As the title says I am having a bit of a problem with the coolant drain on the 22RE in my 88 pickup. Well I removed the plug from the block and nothing happened, so I used a mirror to look inside it and it appeared as though some sort of plug was in there which required an Allen wrench to remove it. So I grabbed what I though was the proper sized Allen wrench and tried to remove it, nothing happened. Keep in mind it was pretty gummed up so it was hard to see exactly what I was dealing with. So in a fit of frustration I grabbed a flat headed screwdriver and pushed against the plug. It moved with relative ease and coolant came pouring out.

The problem I have is it does not appear to have returned to its original position. Should I not worry about it or is there some secret to taking it out?

I think what you saw was simply old scale that had built up behind the plug you removed. (?)
