better off ,probably. likely to get it fixed unlikely (no $$$$). if it works it works, if not, lesson learned and if it ruins a new radiator which it's not supposed to, i'm out 130.00 i spent on that. check out the rxauto.com website (thermagasket). i've been on it dozens of times.if it works, you'll read my testimonial there too.

I agree with Dirt not a good move, don't use the goop!!! Just fix it, all the info you need you can find here. I do alright by my self and very rarely take my vehicles anywhere, not that I'm a master mech by any means. Just got to give it a shot and do it.

Northeast Pa. thanks for the encouragement to do it myself, just not something i'm up for physically or fianacially right now. the truck has been broken since july , so since it's not a primary vehicle anymore and finances suck, it's hard to justify any amount of money. i'd rather say i messed up on a 130.00 gamble than to start something i don't feel i'm capable of doing or finishing. rather , i'd like to think this stuff will do what it's warranted to do and not do and if it's a mistake, it's my mistake and i'm out the cost of a radiator etc..... and still have a blown HG. so anyway, any suggestions on getting out a broken bolt, my neighbor is coming tommorrow, works at a CAT dealer and he's going to get the neccessary stuff to get the bolt out....he said he dis the same thing on his '96 and had to unmess it.
on other stuff......anybody ever re-locate their oil filter with one of those kits???? almost died sunday trying to contort myself to get at the filter while still trying to look calm in front of my sons and not teach them new words.
the guy also included SEA-FOAM oil additive to remove the condensation from the oil when i'm through with the thermagasket treatment.

I guess as you see, I'm on the west side. If you were closer I'd stop up and we'd have a go at it. I can understand the finances I think most of use are in that boat as well...I will offer words of encouragement, I have used something like this before and it worked for a rad. I will say though it was on a 79 4 door Impala, blue on blue with a red back seat, it was on it's last lets anyway so I didn't care much. But it did stop that leak. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted!

Thanks Lumpy! Nobody hopes it stays together as much as me. I learned alot doing this. I know my limits, and definitely pulling the head off exceeds them. The Thermagasket worked within less than a minute.....my truck sounded better and stopped steaming from the tailpipe. I was pumped so my son and I took it for about a 20 mile ride (as recommended) and it ran strong and steady. Mind you the truck has been garaged since july when this all erupted,

Plugs and wires tomorrow and another oil change to get rid of the water....will add Sea Foam to the oil and gas to clean it out and I think I will be in good shape. Says to run it without the thermostat for about 2 weeks then drain and flush, replace the thermostat and fill with coolant as normal.

Besides the new radiator and hoses and breaking a bolt inside the water neck base and having a heart attack fixing that, I've been doing some body work too. Whne I figure out how to post pic's i certainly will.

Watch running without a stat, engines tend to overheat without one. I think what it is that the water does not stay in the rad long enough to cool and then you have problems. Really keep an eye on your temp. If you do run without one for a while you can make a small restrictor plate. You may need to experiment with different size holes, if you have an issue with over heating. Just a thought...

upload your photos to photobucket and add the links when you post. I found that to be the easiest way. She got a bit of cancer but I'll get her together soon enough. Name: Pass.jpg
