1st gen 4rnr plater bumper + stinger

this is what my brother (he wheels a 68 bronco that he rebuilt from the ground up including sick bumpers that he made) and i did over christmas break. 4 days of work with at least 6hrs a day... to build this bumper for someone would not be economical lol. final cost was around 250 including paint, welding wire, and grinder blades. the tubing is craaaaappy steel so its primarily aesthetic or it might end up working for a light mount. it was pretty thin so even at a low setting the welder was burning through it. i would have done a few things differently- dom 1035 tube for the stinger, sand blasted the whole thing before coating, powdercoating instead of tough spray paint, and regular welding wire instead of flux core (that stuff is sooooo nasty). anyhow im really happy with it even though it weighs in at over 100lbs and makes the front end feel kinda spongy. that just gives me a reason to do a 3.4 swap and get some sweet shocks up front.

3/16 plate for most of it but the mounting plate is 1/4. disregard the poor welds on the tubing, that will be explained when i have more time. the slots left for the bolts also double as a perfect hilift jack point! the pics arent clear in this area but there is a winch spot in there. it was measured to fit any winch in production. i didnt drill the mounting holes or the rope hole since i dont have a fairlead or rollers right now.

and my brothers bronco where i got the inspiration for plate bumpers. yes, thats me tripping up the hill with the winch remote. that spot was a lot worse than it looked and for some reason the 12 other early broncos we were with decided to stop on a nasty hill and of course the only unlocked bronco is at the worst part... oh well, hes locked f/r now.

Right on manI'm learning to weld and thats the style I want to go with. I have been searching for custom plate bumpers with tube stingers for a while trying to get ideas. Your is pretty much exactly what I have been thinking. Looks great!

hehe thanks guys! i cant wait to tag a rock or tree out on the trail and see who says uncle first!

kyobrown- thanks, i love the rims too! gotta love craigslist!
aworth- hehe, i actually was being conservative with the stinger! if this were a more built up rig the stinger would probably be bigger.
4x4907- this was my first try at welding. my brother said i did pretty good. i love it! cant wait til i get my owner welder, the madness will never stop!
87- thanks! im glad i went with this insttead of buying the tg bumper. i like the tg but there is nothing like making your own stuff!
clyde- thanks!
bleeder- what does? i dont see anything :p

weight is easily over 100lbs but idk hhow much.

thanks guys!

WOW! I have been thinking almost the same thing; except i want a full 2 feet of plate, coming straight out, and not angleing in on the sides; so that i can actually step and stand on it, sit in it, to look inside the engine bay,
or even have some Mad Max dudes standing up in there, fully harnassed , for any possible end of society as we know it, action. or throw an extra deer/pig up in there...

its a lincoln electric, the model number escapes me right now. retail was something around $700. i just remember its single pass capability was pretty sick.
