1992 pickup w/22re wont stay running
i have a 92 Toyota pickup with the 22re and auto trans 4wd the trucks been sitting for less then a year its been turned over but not started now I'm trying to get it running but it fires off and will start for a sec. or two then die out after the first time when you go to start it again it'll start but run ruff and die right out . ive looked it over and put fresh gas in it and I believe it has a new fuel pump in it . the only thing I found bad was the fuse for the alternator do you think that's the reason it wont start and run ? I mechanic friend said that wont keep it from running . what do you guess think ?

Check the flap in airbox. If it is stuck closed engine will not stay running as it does not see airflow. If that is not problem you can install a jumper in diagnostics port to force fuel pump to run to rule out a few things.

ok went through the air box and flap is good , I checked the best I could and vac. lines seem good couldn't find and cracks or anything unplugged . gas has been in for awhile which I had thought of but I had put some stable in it before winter and there was much more then a gallon or two I also just added a gallon or so to it before I tried to start it and plan on getting another gal for it . don't know , maybe some more fresh gas will help . its firing because it'll start for a sec then run ruff like its out of gas die out then it'll just pop off and die out over and over again .

Hi: I'm having the same problem. I can put power to my fuel pump and in runs. I remove the return line and its pumping fuel. I leave it hooked up and the rig runs. Plug it back into the harness and it dies right after starting. I have swaped the air flow bax and both relays from another rig that is running and can't solve the problem Any ideas as to what to try next?

I just keep going 0ver stuff and still cant really find anything wrong . its getting gas thou I do think part of the problem is the little bit of old gas that was in it I have put close to 3 gls in it and don't think there was much more then a gal left in it . it is starting and will run for a little bit more then before and will do it a again after it dies out . so thinking maybe the new gas is starting to get up to it . will keep trying it and keep look at stuff .

I solved this. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...unning-295675/
It is the fuel pump. (wire)

thinking its the fuel pump now . my son came down and pulled the line past the filter and it didn't have any pressure just barely any fuel came out he said . I plan to pulling the line before the filter just to make sure its not plugged . I know the filter is new the guy I got it from put it on the day I bought it but theres that chance its plugged . so guess that's my next step .

Do you have a small three screw access panel in the floor behind the passenger seat?
If so, you will see the two wire connector to fuel pump, and a metal fuel line connector.
I suggest you disconnect the metal fuel supply line from that, put a long 5/16" x 3' long
fuel hose on the side faceing between seats, into a catch can of sorts. Clear old gallon milk plastic contain works well. With key on, jumper the B+ & FP in the grey plastic diagnostic port box at engine top. This should turn on the fuel pump and gas should flow into the jug.
