1991 22re engine coolant sensor problem helppppp
I have a 1991 pickup 22re and it runs good for about 5min the like it dies And won't stay running I've read on here it could possibly be the engine coolant sensor but the the coolant gauge in truck never moves even after its had 5 min to warm up so idk what do you guys think

Coolant temp sensor and the gauge sending unit are two different things.
Has the CEL come on any codes??
When it stops will it restart at once or does it need to sit for a period of time.
How about a little history??
You just bought this truck?
you have had the truck this just started??
What work was done recent tune up Fuel filter etc??
With this ethanol blended gas I am seeing a lot more fuel filter changes.

I've had it for a couple weeks I've did odd jobs on it like front main seal and oil pump seal new wires cap rotor button and plugs and it runs the best it has for the 5 min until I'm guessing it gets warm then to me the truck kinda sounds like its flooding itself and does a little skipping but idk about if I let it sit for awhile and try cranking again I haven't tried that cause when it cuts off I haven't thought about it

well it comes down to either a fuel problem or electrical.
A bad coolant temp sensor should light the CEL does that work ??
The bulb should light when you turn the ignition switch on.
I would look a fuel pressure.
Check the coil and igniter
Both could cause it to run for a few minutes
Another thing is a mouse or other rodent nest some place in the air intake system.
I had that happen what a real pain to figure out.

Pull the CEL codes. Jump TE1 and E1 on the diagnostic port using a paperclip and turn the key to ON. Count the number of flashes, and tell us your code (two and five, 25 for example). Let's start there.

Codes... http://4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/...es/index.shtml
How to get Check Engine Codes. I just put this up for others. Applies to 87 and up. 86 and older is the bottom picture.
The Diagnostic port for the 85-86 is on the Drivers side inner fender and is nothing the same as the 87 and up. Here is T1 and E1 jumped. The codes and engine flashes are the same as the rest of the trucks on the dash.

Yeah, it repeats endlessly. Be sure to check a few times though, you might have multiple codes.
Code 12 is:
RPM signal
• Open or short in NE circuit
• Distributor
• Open or short in STA circuit
• ECM
If I'm understanding it correctly, you've either got a wiring issue from your coil to your distributor, a faulty distributor, or a problem with the starter circuit. The ECM (ECU) is listed, but rarely the issue in these cases.
Anyone else want to chime in with more direction? I don't know probable causes on a 22.
