1988 w/3VZE - A/C system installation...
Good morning all,
I promise that I've spent a few days searching for the answer to this question and I was unfortunately unable to get a straight answer but I did get answers to other questions I had during my readings of other threads, so thanks!
I'm seriously considering the installation of an A/C system in my non-A/C 1988 Pickup w/3VZE manual trans. I'm just wondering just how difficult it's going to be and what are all of the components that I'm going to need to get a hold of.
I purchased my rig in early February and recently got a rebuilt 3VZE installed and running strong. Please have patience with me, I'm learning as I go. Thanks in advance for any advice and wisdom. I hope you all had a good and safe 4th of July!

I've never done work on my A/C (the only system I haven't worked on) but here's info from the Factory Service Manual about it, I'd suggest reading it through so you know how many components are involved.

I'm not sure where you would get all the parts either, buying them from an auto store would get expensive real fast. I guess a junk yard could work, just make sure they have a return policy in case the compressor doesn't work.

Thanks for the information Gamefreakgc! It is much appreciated. I'll read up on it. Meanwhile, I hope to get more replies to find out if anyone has taken up the task in the past of what I'm trying to accomplish and what experience they've had with it.

Thinking of doing this for my truck. My research tells me two options:
After market A/C $900
Donor A/C system from similar truck.
Donor looks the easiest out of the two, A/C was a dealer installed option so every truck already has the harness plugs / holes in the firewall etc.
I'm on the hunt for a 4runner so I can swaps the bench for buckets and remove A/C.
Good luck

Did the swap on my 22re and I will say if you can find a donor for most of the stuff it will be easier, also look at getting a new compressor or reman, went through 5 at the yard and all the clutches were toast. I live by a toyota only yard which made it way easier for me to get the full set up, if you can't find anything local you can always call them and see how much for everything shipped, yard is called yota Jim's in Denver CO.
And again if you do order from a yard you might just ask how much without the compressor, the reman that I bought was around 250 or so, I wanted to get a clutch rebuild kit for the original compressor but the dealer doesn't offer a rebuild kit anymore

Thanks for the tips Discombobulated. If I don't have any luck tracking a full system (Minus the compressor) down at the Rancho Cordova, CA Toyota recycling yards, I'll give your yard a try.
Good luck with your hunt as well, Milkybar! I was wondering about the wiring. Good to know that there are already harness plugs! Woohoo!

I forgot to ask this question in my original post... Can I use a 4 cylinder A/C system on a 6 cylinder system? There is someone parting out a 4 cylinder rig with an A/C system about 2 hours drive from me.
