oil pressure
Hi there!
Well, on my new and improved SR5 gauge cluster! I noticed that my oil pressure gauge seems to take its time getting up to the "OK" mark. And even still, its not very responsive while revving the motor.
Why do you suppose this would be? It has a proper amount of oil, and the SR5 sending unit is brand new. Have you ever heard of the oil screen possibly becoming clogged at all?

part of it may be the guage its self not being quick responding like an analog gauge would be. I swapped and SR5 cluster into my truck also and it seems a bit delayed ie driving at like 3000 push in the clutch and let it idle and it takes a little while for the guage to react to this change. Idk but i know my fuel gauge sure takes its sweet time gettin up to full so it could be a similar thing? not sure though.

If you want a good gauge, install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge from autometer, VDO, DEFI, etc. All of these will have a faster response time.

The factory oil pressure gauges are very slow to respond by design. Inside, there is a bimetallic strip with a heater wire wrapped around it. It's very highly damped because you gotta wait for the temperature change before anything happens.
If you want a good gauge, install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge from autometer, VDO, DEFI, etc. All of these will have a faster response time.

But even still I can sometimes hear the valves tapping for a good 30 seconds before oil gets up in there. When I change the gasket for the oil pan... I'll give the screen a good look.

i had a similar problem, with the valves being excessively loud for a lil while when started up in cold weather. Changing to a 5w30 instead of a 10w30 and it definatly helped out, didnt solve it 100% but it helped. also my screen was clean when i had that noise, as i had just cleaned it before last winter.

nope a 5w is thinner at cold temperatures
which is why i use it in the winter because it moves through the engine faster and gets oil pressure up and oil on the valves more quickly than a thicker oil would. the valves are still noisy on cold weather starts but they quiet down much sooner with the 5w rather than the 10. interesting article about oil weights here if you have lots of time to read lol
