Unless you can actually hear the engine clacking for 20 or 30 sec. (3, 4, 5 sec. OK) then quieten down, I wouldn't worry about it. They are all going to take a few seconds to get a proper amount of oil to the top. And you can hear when that happens. I think you are depending too much on that guage at first and searching for a problem that you probably don't even have.
I hope I didn't affend you. That was not my intent.

today when i changed my oil i let it drain for about an hour (had to go somewhere..lol) when i got back..put the new filter on..filled up with 10w30 started it up and i didnt have pressure for a few seconds...because i had drained all the oil out..
so maybe your's is doing the same thing???
if not i would say you got a clogged or partially clogged passage somewhere

hey.
happens on all cars buddy. i work in an oil change shop, and all cars take 10 -20 seconds to build pressure.
though with the OP, if ur waiting 30+ seconds EVERY START then i would say you have a bit of a problem. though if its not making a butt load of noise, then i wouldnt worry about it. though i wouldnt rev it with no oil pressure! lol.

It is clanky..noisy when I first start it. The oil pump being new was filled with some kind of grease when I put it on the engine. I hot dipped the engine before rebuild but the shop did not take out the galley plugs.. They say they never have before and never have any problem. I have looked at the gears and housing and I still do not understand how the gears move oil since there is no holes/port in the housing where the gears are.. but I do underatand the animated pict above..

OK... 4Crawler.. That is a great animated pic but I have taken the gears out and looked.. There are no hole/ports in the body of the oilpump so I do not see how the oil comes into the gears and leave... I know it must work since eventually oil pressure does build up..
